The Dynamics of buildings networks and the relevance of Connectivity.
There may be no better tech industry banner than the precept “change is the only constant.” Adapting to stay ahead of the game is required in this field and so is keeping up with how technology influences various markets, industry trends and development.
Fast forward to today, we have the privilege of experiencing an interesting set of industry shifts where evolving building networks are required. One of those shifts focuses on how innovative technologies could shape how we build out networks of the future for buildings.
To reach this reality, an intentional approach needs to be developed that includes input from several different teams. From the design, technology,?construction and system integrations phases, to the real estate developers, executing an inclusive building operations plan that incorporates informative, reliable and useful data networks will result in smarter and healthier buildings and communities. ?
With a focus on innovative technologies, a data-driven architectural network approach is necessary. ?As the world continues to navigate the consequences of the global COVID-19 pandemic, networks must also be cloud-enabled, application-based and have the ability to transport a wide variety of data, helping to enable the broader capabilities of the future of work, including fully remote, hybrid and collaborative work environments.
Today, building networks are expected to offer positive connectivity experiences through a scalable network able to put forward power, wireless connectivity and adapt to an increasing number of new technologies.

As smart intuitive spaces become more prevalent in office settings, so has the demand for these types of network upgrades. To address these building occupancy shifts, one of the key foundational elements to achieve those positive experiences is to enhance the building’s core technology, as well as Ethernet access to create an interesting dynamic between occupants and buildings – i.e. the building?learns the behavior?of the occupant, then, can?anticipate and adapt?to an occupants’ evolving needs.?
There is another important foundational element alongside technology which needs to be considered. ?Including converged connectivity as part of the architectural network approach has resulted into an interesting shift. We are finding that wired and wireless technology networks are needed to support application needs such artificial intelligence-enabled digital assistants, VR/AR immersive experiences, advance wayfinding, temperature control mechanisms, A/V, Lighting, volatile organic compound sensors that could be transported by Hybrid Fiber networks, 4-pair ethernet, SPE ( Single pair-ethernet), LPWAN technologies, Wi-Fi, Li-Fi, public wireless networks (like 5G) or private cellular networks such CBRS. With these foundational elements, it is clear that architects, engineers, MEP communities, as well as building owners/operators need accessibility to a collaborative network that will create a positive and functional experience.
As the speed of business is accelerating, so has our reliability on our devices, sensors, software and online connectivity. ?
The infrastructure enabled by Prysmian’s GenSPEED??provides the core solutions necessary to facilitate this technology and support the network needs that our homes, building and communities rely on today, and in the future. ?
