Dynamics 365 HR - Release 2024 Wave 1

Dynamics 365 HR - Release 2024 Wave 1

2 times a year Microsoft publishes the wave 1 and wave 2 roadmap for Dynamics 365 and Power Plarform. It is exciting to see the focus areas from the product teams and key features that are planned during the waves.

What is most interesting for me is to read and interpret the product vision and the north star of where the product is moving based on the roadmap and ongoing feature releases. Here's my view of the what's planned in the world of Dynamics 365 Human Resources in 2024 W1 and how it impacts customers, partners and ISV's.

To define the future one must study the past - Confucius

The above timeline sort of sums of the last few years of Human Resources, it definitely feels like we were all sailing against the wind that kept changing directions. But there are 2 key elements to higlight: One is that there has been continous innovation and good features added to the product strategically solving key issues and secondly the direction of the wind was changing to get alinged with the broader technology strategy across Microsoft (One Dynamics One Platform, AI and Copilot..)

Finally the dust has settled and HR is back on D365 F&SCM platform and the innovation engine will be starting its work.

What is planned for 2024 Wave 1

Recruitment, recruitment and recruitment.... and a bit of Copilot....

The one question we get asked by HR leaders is 'can we support end to end recruitment process on Dynamics 365?' I am happy to see that we will able to answer this question in 2024.

HR getting closer to rest of the application stack

All cross application/platform strategic initiatives of Microsoft are coming closer together and hey employee experience and human resources sits at the centre of all business domains.

The product team is taking steps in the direction of making HR data available for Microsoft Entra ID (Sorry AAD) integrations. Read more about this: Utilize Microsoft Entra ID integration

API's and expanding the HCM landscape

I have been fortunate to work with some of the best Human Resources solutions available in the market and the one thing that I have come to realize is that a core HR system should have the flexibility to integrate with best of breed/local solutions. This supports organizations as they evolve through different stages of the lifecycle (Expanding across geographies, size of the organization, local government and compliance changes...)

The last few years the product teams of D365HR has focussed in exposing different areas of the solution for external application integrations. This theme will continue in 2024 with additional API's focussed on learning management.

What's D365HR's north star?

The way I see it, over the next couple of years we will see Human Resources spreading its wings ??across the Microsoft solution stack such as Azure, Teams, Viva, Entra, Power Plarform (ofcourse Copilot) creating powerfull end user experiences across Employees, Managers, HR administrators. The HR data will be used seamlessly across business domains as well as readily available for insights and integrations.

This is represented by the product teams strategic roadmap overview with investments focussed on 3 areas: Improve recruiting experiences, Expand HCM ecosystem, Build better together experiences.

Best is yet to come...

That's my closing note. I may be biased because of my love for Dynamics 365 Human Resources but all I can tell is best is yet to come in the world of Human Resources and let's get ready and adjust our sails for the innovation ahead!

Kudos to the product team for all the cool stuff and support! The latest roadmap updates can be followed using the link: What's new and planned for Dynamics 365 Human Resources (2024 Wave 1)

I'm excited to see what Microsoft come up with as part of their recruitment offering. There are already some strong solutions out there offered by ISVs so it may be a tough ask. Hopefully now HR is back in the F&O/F&SCM space there will be lots of upcoming innovation.
