Dynamic Authenticator IDP Platform - Request for Proposals and Comments
Biom.io was a project we started about 4 years ago, wanting to build a true password-less authenticator at a cross-section in time when the passwords are both ineffective and are a nuisance and a barrier. The platform that was built with a solid design, implementing a dynamic (logic or AI driven), multi-modal/multi-factor authenticator with flexible “camera-based biometrics” (face, palm) with liveness detection and ability to mix biometric and non-biometric factors in a certainty-driven, step-up, dynamic experience. It sits on top of OIDC (open id connect) so can be set up as an IDP (identity provider) for a federated auth. We have put together some proof-of-concept applications, like wrapping PGP with it, providing for biometric protected email, and a smart door lock running on RaspberryPi.
Main Highlights:
We had put together a number of proof-of-concepts for various solutions working with the authenticator.
We built the authenticator as a “tech forward” platform and decided to put the brakes on commercialization as we switched to a different project for the time being.
We still believe it holds a lot of promise as biometric authenticators have gained quite a bit of headway recently with advent of phone based biometric scanners. (while those are decent, they only provide local enrollment and authentication, doing little for the services who need to identify and authenticate a user as they are provisioned in their own system)
I’m posting this up in hope to find a way to move the project forward on a commercial or open source basis. If you have ideas or collaboration proposals, please let me know - happy to discuss options. One trend in particular that’s been gaining a lot of traction is a self-sovereign (while federated) identity paired up with the blockchain. It could be an interesting use case, leveraging both the Biom.io the DAG block lattice solution we’ve come up with on the blockchain project.
