Dye & Durham and Korbitec: Aligned missions and a shared dedication to superior practice management

Late last year, Dye & Durham acquired Korbitec, a Canadian vendor of legal document automation software. Alan Bass , Korbitec’s CEO, says the partnership is a great fit, with both companies aligned in one of their key missions: to make life easier for legal professionals.

ACL (Automated Civil Litigation) ’s core product is Automated Civil Litigation ?(ACL), an automated document generation platform that allows lawyers to quickly and easily generate court forms and documents in all litigation cases, including small claims matter, saving time and minimizing the risk of errors. It’s regarded as the single most reliable source for court forms, Bass says, is extremely agile and aimed at meeting clients’ urgent needs.

“Over the last 18 months, we’ve released more than 30 content updates … in keeping with our promise to our customers,” he says.

Korbitec’s tagline, in fact, is “litigation made easy.” Like Dye & Durham, the company’s goal is to provide technology and unmatched service to enhance the litigation process.

“We have what we call a PEER motto — passion, enthusiasm, excitement and respect,” says Bass, who’s been at Korbitec for over 15 years.

“When I joined, the company had a handful of very loyal customers who loved ACL. Over the years, we developed a culture of being ridiculously helpful to both our external and internal customers, taking the approach that we wanted to work for a company that we would do business with.”

The company also set out to enhance its offering through better automation technology, more content, logical workflows and additional features — a task made easier since all of Korbitec’s trainers and software support staff are former litigation assistants or law clerks. Now the firm has hundreds of clients ranging from big national law firms to litigation boutiques.

Joining the Dye & Durham family will enable the company to further enhance its products and have a bigger footprint with its customers, Bass says.

“The combination of ACL with Dye & Durham sends a very positive message to the legal arena,” he says.

“Dye & Durham is rich in history and deep in technology, and our small technology company that developed ACL punched well above its weight to become the standard for any firm practising litigation. This will be a case of one-plus-one adding to more than two because of incredible synergies.”

Like Dye & Durham, Korbitec prides itself on being customer-centric and hyper-responsive.

An example is Korbitec’s introduction of a critical new service at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We introduced xchangedocs, which is integrated into ACL, early in the pandemic as a secure means for law firms to share and serve documents,” he says.

“With the move to remote work, safely sharing documents should be of concern for all law firms and legal departments. A huge feature of xchangedocs is that you can actually serve documents using the platform, without the need for an Affidavit of Service — the only secure exchange platform offering such a feature.”

This type of product will be hugely beneficial to Dye & Durham’s clients and customers, he adds.

“It’s proven to be a game-changer for law firms because it saves money and is another?measure in place to prevent security breaches.”
