For so many of us, life is structured around duty. "I have to do this." "I need to get this done." "This is just the way things are."
Duty and obligation can feel like chains—subtle but heavy. They keep us in a state of low vibration, a place of contraction rather than expansion. When we operate from duty, we are often disconnected from joy, from choice, from the deeper truth of why we do what we do.
But what if we could shift? What if we could step out of obligation and into a place of alignment, presence, and even joy?
Obligation is a Low Frequency
When we act from duty alone, we are operating from a sense of external pressure. It’s driven by conditioning—by what we’ve been taught we "should" do, rather than what truly calls to us. This energy is dense. It breeds resentment, exhaustion, and stagnation.
The frequency of obligation is one of force, not flow. It keeps us stuck in cycles of stress and depletion, where our actions are no longer connected to meaning but rather to expectation.
But there is another way.
The Shift: From Duty to Joyful Expansion
The moment we reframe obligation as an opportunity for expansion, everything changes.
Instead of "I have to do this," we shift to "I get to do this." Instead of "I need to," we shift to "I choose to."
Joy comes when we reconnect with purpose. When we see the bigger picture. When we remember that we are not just here to get through life but to experience it fully.
The truth is, joy is not the opposite of responsibility—it’s a way to approach it. When we bring joy into our work, our relationships, and our commitments, we elevate their energy. We move from contraction to expansion. From force to flow.
Breathwork as the Gateway
One of the most powerful ways to break the cycle of duty and obligation is through breathwork. The breath is a portal. It instantly brings us out of the mind—the place where obligation lives—and into the body, where presence and choice reside.
With each conscious breath, we shift our frequency. We let go of the weight of “should” and reconnect with the spaciousness of the present moment. From this space, we can ask:
Breath allows us to step back and see where we are acting from unconscious programming versus where we are acting from true alignment.
Living from Joyful Commitment
Imagine a life where everything you do is infused with presence. Where your commitments come from a place of deep knowing, not external pressure. Where you can bring lightness into even the most mundane tasks—not because they change, but because your energy does.
This is the shift.
You are not here to live under the weight of duty. You are here to step into expansion, into purpose, into joy. And the moment you choose that shift, everything transforms.

2 周When I started working 1:1 with my coach, she asked me a very powerful question. She said, "Marie, how much of what you're doing in your life is because you want to, and not because you think you have to?". This stopped me in my tracks. And then, the veil started to lift ????

2 周Love this perspective, Rebecca! I’ve experienced this transformation myself over the last few years, stepping out of should and into joy. For a long time, I used resentment as fuel. "Maybe I have to do it, but you won’t have me." So I showed up miserable and stayed stuck in a rut. Managing my own state, questioning old stories, and choosing alignment over duty changed everything. Now, I see how approaching life with joy opens up possibilities I never imagined.

2 周The idea of reframing to amplify joy is really powerful. It's easy to get stuck in ‘duty mode’—but shifting to a higher vibration could truly transform how we approach life.
