Everyone knows that the world is getting hotter. More than 10% of the Earth's energy is needed to cool buildings. It is expected to reach 30% by 2030.

Our governments, educators, commercial and institutional CEOs, and most other power?brokers keep emphasizing how “Green, Sustainable“ we are in BC.

Almost all of the roofing industry in BC, and unbelievably, in the rest of Canada, cannot make that claim. It is not Green, Sustainable.

Why is this so? Why is it that the majority of roofs installed and being installed in BC use a technology that hits none of the basis for Green, Energy Efficient and Environmentally Friendly? It is not sustainable, it wastes energy, adds hundreds of tons to landfills yearly, ignores Green Technologies and Environmental Improvements.?

Torch On?is the culprit. Why do Roofing Associations support, promote, provide costly warranties (to both end-users and Government Ministries which are Taxpayer Funded) and restrict the number of Roofing Companies that can take advantage of bidding on these projects because they are not part of their organization? When is the Government going to investigate these unfair practices?

The Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments are FAILING in not protecting their citizens. The number one DUTY& CONCERN of these Governments is to offer the best protection. When it comes to using torch-on roofing they FAIL Miserably.

Sustainability?

PVC - Since 1964

Torch-On - None

Energy saving

PVC - A PVC roof can save up to 30% of the energy required to heat or cool a building

Torch-On - None

Reflectivity

PVC - A white PVC roof?reflects up to 89% of the sun’s?heat which equals a cooler building and more savings for you

Torch-On - Minis -15%. Will make the roof hotter than the pavement.

Just experienced this in BC in June of 2021 during the Heat Dome which also KILLED 595 people who were baked alive in the homes. When the temperature reached nearly 50 degrees centigrade, Torch On was using the open fire to apply their products on roofs. I would have to say that it is just madness to image that being done.

HVAC

PVC - You can install less powerful units because of the savings the roof provides?–?because of the improved ambient roof temperature

Torch-On - Their dark color contributes to the necessity for heavy-duty HVAC units which translates into poorer energy savings.

Recyclability

PVC - A PVC roof can be continuously recycled. Millions of tons of PVC have been recycled and turned into other PVC products

Torch-On - Not possible. Torch On contributes tons of material to landfills every year. The landfill is Running Out of Space! What are we going to do?

Warranty

PVC - Warranties are the BEST in the Business. Up to 30 years of protection is available.

Torch-On - Torch On provides an inferior 3rd party warranty that is extremely expensive & only available for 5 or 10 years. Just ask the roofers who install it. If they are truthful they will tell you the facts.

Seaming

PVC - This is where “The rubber hits the road” PVC roofs are built in factories and are shipped in rolls. The rolls are then seamed together using a walker welder. No large dirty flames here.

Torch-On - None

Leaks

PVC - Very rare but completely covered by their warranties at no cost to you

Torch-On - Torch On will repair leaks as long as you keep those very expensive warranty payments up to date. When it rains "lookout". During this Atmospheric River that BC is experiencing these roofs are failing.

Substrates

PVC - Can be installed on a variety of substrates thus transforming a non-reflective roof into an energy-saving reflective roof.

Torch-On - Open Flame Torch On has caused many fires that destroyed buildings and property worth millions. 2 firefighters died in Ontario trying to put out fires related to torch-on, open flame.
