There is no other way to put it, the American food system STINKS!
Harvard Health, Oregon State University, Healthline, CDC, National Institutes of Health, Biostation, and on and on goes the list of professional organizations reporting that there is a huge problem in the way Americans eat and what they eat.
Biostation reports that 92% of adult Americans have one or more nutrient deficiencies.? A report from Oregon State University reports significant numbers of Americans don’t get necessary micronutrients.? They report that about 75% of the US population (ages ≥1 year) do not consume the recommended intake of fruit, and more than 80% do not consume the recommended intake of vegetables.? Their report is so detailed I can write a small booklet on what they found (https://lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/micronutrient-inadequacies/overview).
In the Biostation report (https://thebiostation.com/bioblog/do-you-have-vitamin-deficiency/) they found that 90% of Americans are deficit in potassium and Vitamin D, 80% are deficit in Vitamin E, 70%in calcium, and 50% in Vitamin A, C and magnesium.
Why?

Some want to blame financial situations, but you can’t say that 90% of Americans can afford decent food.? It is the “system”, and the way Americans are brainwashed into thinking that there “just isn’t enough time in their day to eat quality nutritious food so they eat fast foods” (cheap garbage that is high in energy but very low in nutrition).? Quick, hurry, gobble down that highly processed, high fructose meaningless food so you can have more time to spend on the internet or texting friends.
Wait a minute!? Why aren’t key professional organizations screaming about this?? Long term, these significant shortfalls will cause health issues, some severe.? Over 50% of Americans are obese, 60% of Americans over 65 have two OR MORE chronic diseases. And nearly 50% of adult Americans don’t get enough exercise.
The media don’t want to offend their biggest advertisers.? The politicians are afraid of insulting donors.? The medical community will definitely be there for every Americans ONCE THEY GET SICK.
The only person who can help you is yourself.? If you want to live a long AND healthy life you need to learn how and what to eat, then eat it and finally get the needed exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle!
This is the primary reasoning behind what I try to do everyday in the garden!!!

1 年I just read a great article just today on the poor choices being made by most Americans! Adults who?stick to a healthy diet?are much less likely to experience obesity, heart disease, diabetes and even some types of cancer, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — yet most Americans aren’t getting the nutrition they need.? "Nutrition is thought to dictate about 80% of one’s health, and obesity irrefutably shaves nearly 10 years off a person’s life," said Dr. Brett Osborn, a board-certified neurosurgeon in?West Palm Beach, Florida? Osborn described excess sugar consumption as "the root of all evil." "Sugar, by definition, is a high glycemic index carbohydrate, meaning that once it enters the gut, it immediately crosses the bowel lining and enters the bloodstream, causing a rapid rise in blood sugar," he said.? The article concludes with10 nutrition mistakes could be taking years off your life.
