Dunnes Retains Its Position As Ireland’s Top Supermarket

Dunnes Stores?has retained its position as Ireland’s top supermarket with the highest share of the Irish grocery market, at 22.7%, and growth of 8.2%, year on year, according to the latest figures from Kantar. This growth stems from an influx of new shoppers – up by 5.3% – which contributed an additional €32.3 million to its performance. Tesco?holds 21.8% of the market, with growth of 5.2%, year on year, thanks to an 8.9% increase in shoppers returning to the store more often than they did before. SuperValu?sits on a 21.2% share and continues to see shoppers make the most trips in store when compared to all retailers, with an average of 21.2 trips per year – up by 3.5%, year on year. Lidl?holds a 13.1% share, growing by 5.6%, year on year.

ALDI Ireland?has initiated a recruitment drive to fill 450 vacancies across the retailer’s 153-store network in Ireland. The company noted that it is recruiting for store assistants, including 330 permanent positions and 120 fixed-term contract positions. Recruitment has begun, and ALDI is keen to fill all positions as soon as possible, as the company continues to open new stores and sees an increase in customer demand across its existing store network, while the retailer prepares for the busy Christmas period.

Tesco?Ireland has announced a new price lock commitment , freezing the prices on hundreds of everyday products until 2023. The products are all included within the Low Everyday Prices campaign, which covers a wide range of products, from grocery staples to household and health & beauty products. Some of the items that will be included in Tesco’s ‘price lock’ include household brands such as?Denny?deli-style traditional ham and?Kellogg’s?cereals, to name but a few. Tesco noted that it is currently running cost-cutting promotions in store and online, such as the?Aldi?Price Match, as well as a number of exclusive deals through its Clubcard Prices.

PepsiCo Inc on Wednesday lifted its annual forecasts for revenue and profit as the soft drinks and snack giant raised prices again to battle surging costs while also signalling resilient consumer demand. The beat-and-raise pushed the company's shares 2.6% higher in premarket trade and comes against the backdrop of gloomy expectations for third-quarter results amid surging inflation and rising interest rates. PepsiCo's domination of the carbonated drinks market with Coca-Cola has helped it raise prices with little resistance from customers, while its snacks business is benefiting from a shift to eating more at home than at restaurants to rein in discretionary spending.

Retail Excellence?has announced a two - year partnership extension with payment solutions provider?AIB?Merchant Services. According to the retail industry representative body, the agreement will see the fintech provider ‘retain its position’ as the exclusive payment partner to Retail Excellence and its 2,200-strong membership, which is comprised of a number of retail companies that operate in the?Irish?market. Commenting on the partnership, Duncan Graham, managing director of Retail Excellence, said, “As we emerge from the pandemic, it is crucial that retailers can offer the best customer experience possible, and I am confident this deal will help deliver that.”
