Dune - Frank Herbert(?????)
Book 61
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
I had somehow completely missed this bandwagon when it took off; the recent trailer for the movie and all the hype around it intrigued me so I picked up the first book. Damn it, now I’m completely hooked. It rivals Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire in terms of quality. The first book in this mega series has incredible characters who develop fantastic arcs over time. The plot is intensely gripping with so many nuances and subtleties that you best pay attention. The key protagonists are a little one dimensional and rarely falter after the first third of the book, but that is part of their character development too. Herbert has built a completely captivating world on Arrakis while also including some inspiring details of Caladan and Salusa Secundus.
I’m so excited to get started with the second book and I hope the entire series is as thrilling as this first book. Looking forward to it.
p.s. If there are any Dune fans reading this, do shout out; I have a feeling I’m going to want to nerd out about this series very soon.
