I have been raising Investment/Equity and Finance for over 20 years crafting my way from Grant applications to Alternative Finance to now preparing Global Founders to raise investment by signing off through our Investment Readiness Team all documents from Teaser to Summary to Pitch Decks to Financials to then using our own Investor Deal Room with over 35000 Investors mainly Family Offices/UHNWI Investors as that is my sandpit and where I specialise in. Whereas my Partners are ex USA/European VC’s. Though as I started out as an Angel Investor, we have a good database Angel Investors from SEIS/EIS UK Angel Investors and others.

What did we learn and what will we takeaway into 2022 to supporting raising for global Founders?
Tools that we use to source suitable Investors for our Founders:
Personal Deal Room – 35000 Investor contacts that have opted to stay with us that will become a membership platform in 2022 and an App then looking to launch Blockchain for the future.
LinkedIn – using Sales Nav and a Premier account with two members of our Marketing Team managing this and of course with myself who spend around 4 hours per day on LinkedIn to follow up on posts and articles and contacts as I have 26000 Investors in my contacts here.
We are moving over to use this month Sales automation & acceleration at scale | Snov.io for our Founders to generate leads which I have been advised would be up to 150%. We now have recruitment a new member for our Digital Marketing Team to manage this.
We also use All Your Digital Marketing Tools in One Place - Sendinblue for weekly Email Marketing campaigns. So, this week we just started our Q4 Autumn Winter Campaign. We work with Founders on Content and visuals.
We also source for our Founders suitable Investor Pitching Events not just in the UK but globally and make sure that we put them in the front of the queue for Angel UK Network Pitching Events.
In addition to that we host our own Investor Pitching Events for our Founders and during the Pandemic we had to host online but returned in person in the Summer London Mayfair for our Summer Investor Summit which was an incredible success though smaller than 2019 we still managed to raise Term Sheet stage for 2/5 of our Founders.

WHY DO SOME FOUNDERS RAISE AND OTHERS DON’T – BESIDES THE OBVIOUS!
I have over the last 20 years seen some amazing Founders with great Propositions in my view fail to raise and from experience of doing this every day be prepared to fail! Yes, Fail and learn form it. One of the most common reasons during Covid that Founders failed:

Not living in the real world with ludicrous valuations and ASK with no Traction
Poorly prepared documents
No Fundraising Strategy or Team with experience
And not having in the Cash Flow funds to cover you getting traction so if you have orders but cannot afford to manufacture for instance the product look at alternative methods of finance.

3 年Spot on Karen, interesting piece. Obviously a lot to learn from you on the topic. I would also add that what is often missing is the ability to tell a compelling story. The start up world is the child of finance and tech, those two do not have much in common apart from the fact their forte is not story telling which is why storytelling is underrated as the key reasons of success for startups. The valuation of Tesla, Uber, Snapchat and many others has been highly dependent on the strength of their story telling so we can only imagine it is even more the case for early stage businesses with hardly any traction or metrics to show...
