Dumb Phone to Smart Phone
CrowdComms
Innovative and engaging end-to-end event tech with experts always in your corner.
But first...an award win!
Before we dive into the brief history of modern phones, we wanted to congratulate our amazing team for another award win, this time at the Dorset Business Awards. Team members Rob Pope and Rory Brokenshire-Trow (with their partners) enjoyed a glamorous evening, as they picked up the Digital & Technology Award for CrowdComms! We think they won the Best Dressed Award too!
For a non-events industry-specific award, judged against many other sectors, this is a real testament to the team’s hard work and advances in #eventtech that they have been working on and delivering worldwide. We are incredibly proud.
Now, back to the topic at hand - the evolution of phones from dumb to smart.
Dumbphones to Smartphones
Mobile phones have evolved from simple communication devices in 1984 to powerful tools that shape events today. Features like the first SMS (1992) and front-facing cameras (2003) were groundbreaking back then.
Today, and more specifically at events, mobile devices serve as more than just communication tools; they facilitate networking, engagement, and instant content sharing. Event apps, QR codes, live streaming, and interactive features like polls or feedback forms on mobile devices revolutionize attendee participation, creating a more immersive, connected experience.
Seen as an indispensable part of daily life, mobile phones have become an essential tool for event participants and have come a long way from the "dumb phones" of 40 years ago.
We'd love to know what your first phone was and when you started using it. Comment on this newsletter and let us know!
