Dumb Dog Gaze

It appears we’re going to have a change of weather starting tomorrow which is including a forecast of possibly rain or snow, so if it’s going to be one or the other, let’s hope for rain. If we do get snow, it should be melting off more quickly because our topsoil is no longer frozen.

Having only one appointment on today’s calendar, I decided to give the wooden floors in my office another scrubbing, and in spite of my having fully cleaned them several weeks ago, there was a noticeable amount of dust build-up which becomes even more visible when our low sun is shining within. Thankfully it didn’t take as long as it did last time because they weren’t all that dirty.

I had to make a quick stop at a groceteria today, and it was quite evident they’re heavily promoting Valentine’s Day items, along with potted plants and cut flowers. Truthfully, I can’t remember the last time I purchased any Valentine’s Day cards or flowers, so I guess I’m a bit of a humbug about it all. You can bet once tomorrow’s over with, they’ll be promoting next month’s St. Patrick’s Day. I always know when that day rolls around because I can’t help remembering a nefarious creature’s birthday which is close to St. Patrick’s Day.

When reading the news today, I was happy to find our Senate finally approved the aid bill they’ve been pushing for months, but what irritated me the most, was reading where our not so illustrious Mike Johnson who’s the Speaker of the House, saying it’ll likely never get passed in the House, which is one more confirmation, he’s another one of D.T.’s minions.

It came as no surprise when the Lincoln Project went ahead and posted a video which came right out and said it was all Trump’s fault for the killing of that much-needed ‘Border’ security legislation. Mind you, the Lincoln Project has always been a highly regarded group of Republicans who’ve kept that project going since 2019. It was likely named ‘Lincoln Project’ because the Republican party was the party of Abraham Lincoln. It seems as each day passes, I see or hear something going on within our political circles which I would’ve never considered possible a decade ago, which I find exceptionally troubling.

My after lunch meeting with the two clarinetists I’ve been working with on a piece which will be presented this coming Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran, went exceptionally well, and after running thru it together for the second time, I had a good ‘chill’ which told me it couldn’t get any better, so let’s hope we pull it off without a hitch.

We’re already looking forward to working on another piece, and I just so happened to have one which most people have heard once or twice, but likely never with accompanying clarinets, so I played thru part of it, and as of now, it’ll likely be the next one we’ll be playing in the coming months. I couldn’t thank them enough for taking time out in their day to come to my office to work on something that’ll be much appreciated by their congregation. With a smile, I couldn’t help saying we may end up being the talk of the town once word gets out. All we need now is a string instrument, but not to worry, cause I’m quietly working on finding one. A cellist would be the best fit, so if you know any cellist who’s willing, have him or her give me a call. The more the merrier. Right? Before they left, I just had to give them a little home made gift as my personal ‘Thank You’.

One of my dear old clients stopped by to have a chat, whom I’d not seen in months, and since he’s well into his nineties, I continue to marvel at his ability to keep both his mind and body appearing much younger than his actual age. I swear it’s because he’s always in an ‘up’ mode whenever he stops, and truth be told, I’ve never once heard him say an unkind thing about anyone. I absolutely love hearing him tell stories from his youth when living in a housefull of women. According to him, his father ran off with another woman shortly after he was born, so he and his mother had to go and live with his aunt and grandmother. I’m sure that must’ve been quite an experience back in those times.

I did get a good laugh out of him when talking about someone I recently ran into whom we both know, and my having to cut our conversation short because I found myself doing all the talking while that guy was giving me that ‘dumb dog gaze’, which had me wondering if he was even listening to me. Of course my dear old client had to rush to his defense by saying, “Oh, you just gotta remember he’s following the beat of a different drummer, and leave it at that.” Now you understand how kind he is. Well, whenever I’m around such people, I’m always wondering if they’re gonna bark or bite, which has just now reminded me what a officer in the bank I worked at for some years said, which went, “Mr. Chodur, you’re one of the few I’ve encountered in my life whose bite is worse than his bark.” Too funny.

My appointment calendar is now starting to fill up for tomorrow, which is making me all the more hopeful it won’t be snowing. Oh well, we’re still in the grips of winter, so if it happens, I’ll just deal with it.

Tonight’s One-liner is: The price of greatness is responsibility.
