Dulles Town Center owner pitches unusual makeover plan

The new owner of Dulles Town Center has filed plans to add lots of new housing to the site, the first step in a bit to revitalize the challenged Loudoun County mall as a live-work-play destination.

Virginia Investment Properties , led by Chantilly investor Srinivas Chavali , wants to add up to 1,000 new homes around the periphery of the mall at 21100 Dulles Town Circle, teeing up future redevelopment of several of its vast parking lots, according to a rezoning application filed with the county’s planning department.

The new units — some 600 stacked flats and 400 single-family homes — would go on a 98-acre donut of land around the mall’s encircling ring road. Portions of that donut are vacant while others are occupied by smaller retail buildings and their parking lots, separate from the mall’s sea of surface parking inside the ring road. Read more.

KPMG names new D.C.-area office managing partner

Accounting giant KPMG has named a new D.C.-area office managing partner.

Patrick Ryan has been tapped to succeed outgoing Managing Partner Timothy H. Gillis , who is retiring Sept. 30. Ryan is currently national leader of the firm’s accounting advisory services and has also been a partner in its deal advisory and strategy practice. Read more.

Hoffman & Associates taps JLL vet as new CEO

Wharf co-developer Hoffman & Associates announced a major change at the top amid a continuing expansion of the D.C. company's footprint deeper into the Southeast U.S.

JLL veteran Brian Dawson has replaced CEO Mark Dorigan , who was promoted from president to chief executive in 2019 when founder Monty Hoffman stepped away from the CEO role. Dorigan, a former Hoffman general counsel, is now listed as a partner in the firm. Read more.

Alt-rock concert HFStival teases return to D.C.

HFStival, a landmark alt-rock festival that was held in the D.C. area in the 1990s and 2000s, is coming back this fall.

I have not read all the details in the new DTC submission but the high-level plan is brilliant. Let’s see…leverage under-utilitized land/parking to develop much needed housing that will increase the overall value of property (investment) and increase foot traffic in the mall itself. I hope Mr. Chavali and team get this approved.
