Dug out? Dig in!

Gluttons & Drunkards?, based out of St. John’s Newfoundland, is encouraging locals to make an extra effort to get out and support local small businesses.

The recent snowstorm and State of Emergency led to the forced closure of businesses, and bans on car travel – which has really put the squeeze on local food and beverage business. No customers mean no income for owners and staff.

The message from Gluttons & Drunkards? is clear – Now that we’ve all dug out, it’s time to dig in!

Well friends, together we made it through the craziest snowstorm since 1894. If you are like us, you just look at your shovel and your eye starts to twitch. I mean that was one friggin’ serious snowfall! As big as the challenge was, we want to take a moment and say that the way we witnessed neighbours rally and help each other was both inspiring and well... beautiful. Don't quote us on that last part. Do we have dust in our eye? Anyway, all that to say that we saw so many people exemplify what this living and creative thing called community is all about.
Over the last week, we’ve had the chance to connect with local chefs, servers, mixologists, baristas, artisans and small business owners and hear how the storm and subsequent S.O.E. impacted them. The storm is long over but the economic effects are still being felt. It is in times like these that they could use a little help from their friends. All of us.
Our brand is about food, drink and friends. So for the next few weeks, we’d like to ask you to make an extra special effort to head out for a scoff or pint to support a local small business as a practical way of showing appreciation, of standing in solidarity. They always take great care of us and now is our chance to take care of them.
Now that we’ve all dug out, let’s dig in!
