Due dates for Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Reporting

The Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Reporting, a law the U.S. government recently implemented, requires business owners to submit identifying information on the entities they own or control.

The filing due dates for the new law depend on when the entity was formed:

? Businesses started before January 1st, 2024, have until the end of 2024 to file BOI.

? Businesses that opened after January 1st, 2024, have 90 days to file the BOI report with FINCEN.

? Businesses that open after January 1st, 2025, have 30 days to file the BOI report.

For 2024 and onwards, I would highly recommend taxpayers to file the BOI report as soon as they open the new entity, concurrent with processing the formation documents with their state and the IRS.

This will assist the taxpayer in addressing their compliance with the new BOI reporting requirement without having to separately file it later after the creation of the entity.

When it comes to an update or a correction to a report previously filed report, both need to be filed within 30 days after the triggering event.
