Dude, Look in the Mirror!
I caught up with a college friend this past weekend.? We admittedly don’t talk as often as we would like to but have committed to making that change after this conversation.? After some catching up, he told me, “I need a hip replacement.”? He is a very active person and we talked about the potential causes.? “I think I just wore it out,” he said.
I responded with a light-hearted, “Are we really this old?”? He quipped, “Dude, look in the mirror!? We aren’t in college anymore!”
Jim Collins famously wrote great leaders “Confront the brutal facts” in Good to Great.? https://www.jimcollins.com/concepts/confront-the-brutal-facts.html The path of least resistance with our health, in our personal lives, and with our businesses is often to procrastinate making changes or rationalize what went wrong.? “I’ll start exercising after the holidays.”? “I’ll call him next week.”? “It isn’t our fault we lost those sales.”?
It can be painful to look in the proverbially mirror.? It can also be life-changing and life-saving.? We are approaching year end.? Take a good look in the mirror.? Confront the brutal facts.? Make the necessary changes.?The mirror does not lie.
