Dublin's Buswells Hotel Being Sold
Hospitality Ireland
Hospitality Ireland is the industry magazine for the Irish food service and on-trade drinks sectors.
Dublin's Buswells Hotel has been placed on the market by property advisor Savills Ireland with a guide price of €22 million. Located across from Leinster House, Buswells has frontage onto Molesworth Street and Kildare Street. This 67-bedroom hotel, which has operated as a hotel since the 19th century, is being offered for sale free of management agreement and brand. The hotel includes food & beverage and conference & meeting facilities.
On behalf of MM Capital, JLL has announced the successful disposal of the recently refurbished and repositioned Temple Bar Lane, which has been sold to a private investor for a sum in the region of the €11 million guide price. Situated in Dublin's Temple Bar area, the property originally opened as the 171-bed Barnacles Hostel in 1997, and it includes development potential within its existing envelope, with the potential to add eight guestrooms internally. JLL advised the vendor as the selling agent, while Shane Markey in Lisney advised the purchaser. Dan O'Connor, executive vice president, JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group, commented, "The deal marks the first major hotel sale in Temple Bar since 2018. Hotels in Temple Bar are rare, with less than 1,000 keys in the district. Hostels are even rarer, with just 118 rooms/dormitories located in Temple Bar. As a result, the sales process attracted significant domestic and international interest and we are delighted to ultimately conclude a sale to an Irish buyer."
Co. Mayo's 350-acre Ashford Castle estate has welcomed two Irish Wolfhound pups. The five-star hotel, which is located in Cong, Co Mayo, has announced the addition of Murphy and Mulligan to its Irish Wolfhound pack. The castle estate has long been synonymous with the Irish Wolfhound, and visitors to the pet-friendly hotel are already be familiar with the estate's Irish Wolfhounds Cronan and Garvan. With Cronan and Garvan moving into semi-retirement, Mulligan and Murphy will take on the older duo's stately duties at the castle.

PREM Group's Aspect Hotel located in Park West Business Campus has been elevated to four-star status under Fáilte Ireland's classification criteria. One of PREM Group's largest properties, Aspect Hotel has just completed a refurbishment programme with an investment of €450,000 to reimagine its lobby, bar and restaurant. The open plan space was designed by architect Hugh Wallace. Damian Meehan of Douglas Wallace said, "We wanted to create an all-day food and beverage operation from a 7am breakfast to a 10pm dinner. The design approach therefore had to allow for flexibility and more importantly the ability to change the mood from morning, afternoon and evening. The design allows the space to adapt and deliver the maximum number of covers.
Fáilte Ireland has launched a new industry wide employer excellence initiative that will provide tourism businesses with a competitive edge as they recruit and retain staff. The initiative will help to drive improvements in employment practices across the industry and provide businesses with tailored action plans and a trusted symbol that denotes a rewarding and appealing workplace. Welcoming the initiative, Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin described the programme as "a step change in acknowledging businesses who make tourism a rewarding place to work and sets a new industry standard for the sector". Minister Martin added, "My department and Fáilte Ireland have been collaborating with industry and other government departments to ensure that there is a coordinated approach to addressing the labour and skills shortages. Employer excellence has been devised by Fáilte Ireland to help tourism businesses demonstrate their commitment to creating rewarding and appealing workplaces. This initiative is a central element of the national tourism development authority's strategy to support the industry to rebuild the staff and skills lost during the pandemic."
