Dublin Bus Employee Spotlight

Joe was appointed an Inspector at Dublin Bus in February of this year. He initially joined the company in 2007 as a bus driver and was based out of our Harristown Depot.

Career before Dublin Bus

Joe shared, “Prior to joining Dublin Bus, I worked in the motor trade selling car parts. It was a good job, very busy, and I enjoyed meeting people, but I wanted a change of career - something where l wasn’t behind a counter”.

What inspired you to work for Dublin Bus

Joe said, “At the time, l had a lot of customers who were bus drivers with Dublin Bus. Some of them suggested I consider a career with Dublin Bus, highly recommending the company as a leading employer. It inspired me, especially since l enjoyed driving. On one occasion, a customer mentioned to me about the Dublin Bus driver recruitment campaign, which highlighted that if you enjoy meeting people and driving, it’s the career for you. That definitely piqued my interest. Seventeen years later, l can happily confirm l haven’t looked back and am very proud to have been recently promoted”.

Describe your team at Dublin Bus

Joe explained, “There’s a family aspect within the team - we’re all in it together, working towards a common goal. Everyone is very supportive and helpful. It’s a rewarding role with great camaraderie”.

What is enjoyable about the job

“This is the only job l have ever had where l can honestly say that when the alarm goes off at 5.00 am, l have no problem getting out of bed and going to work. The team, the variety of tasks, the problem solving, serving our customers – l love every element of my job”.

Proudest achievement to date

Joe admits, “Becoming an Inspector is a great achievement, but throughout my career with Dublin Bus, I’ve worked hard and taken great pride in my role. Whether l was involved in special events like Darkness into Light or a Presidential visits, or helping to time points for a new route, I always welcomed the opportunity to take on additional tasks and responsibilities. I was always delighted to work on new things”.

Interests

“In my spare time, l enjoy getting out into the great outdoors, especially going on camping trips with my family. I’m also involved with a scouting group in Swords.”
