Dublin Bus Employee Spotlight

Tina was appointed an Inspector at Dublin Bus in February of this year, after initially joining the company as a bus driver in 1999. A few years ago, she earned her Advanced Driving Instructor (ADI) qualification and was promoted to driving instructor at the Training School in Phibsboro Depot. Reflecting on her experience, Tina shared, “I really enjoyed being a driving instructor watching trainee drivers grow, gain confidence, and earn their D license to become professional drivers, it was incredibly rewarding. She added, “I'm extremely proud of my career journey with Dublin Bus.”

What is the role of an Inspector

Tina explained, “Inspectors are stationed in Central Control in Broadstone Depot, where we manage the daily operations of bus services to ensure timely and reliable service for our customers. I assist drivers throughout their duties, helping with any issues that may occur, such as incidents or accidents on the road. As an Inspector, I serve as their main point of contact, providing assistance, guidance, and support whenever needed.”

Career before Dublin Bus

Tina shared, “Before joining Dublin Bus, I worked for a few years working with a catering company and then as a receptionist at the City Arts Centre. I started with Dublin Bus in my mid-twenties, and I’ve been here for most of my working life. I love my job and plan to stay for the long haul.”

What inspired you to work for Dublin Bus

Tina said, “Growing up in Dublin, my family didn't own a car; we relied on the bus service to get around the city - it was our main mode of transport. I often watched the bus driver and, back then, the bus conductor as well, and I thought, I could do that job. Being a woman never felt like an obstacle to me! In early 1999, after passing my car driving test, I heard a radio advertisement about Dublin Bus hiring drivers. Everything clicked, so I applied, and I've never looked back since.”

Describe your team at Dublin Bus

Tina said, “It’s often said that the Dublin Bus team feels like one big family. It's a fantastic place to work, with a supportive and helpful team, and the management is great.”

What is enjoyable about the job?

“I'm a people person, and what I love most about my job is connecting with others and working alongside my colleagues. I'm proud to be someone others can rely on. Having progressed within the company, I understand the bus driver’s role and the attention to detail needed to provide a safe and reliable service. I'm always here to support my colleagues, sharing my experience, knowledge, and learnings along the way.”?

Proudest achievement to date

Tina admits, “As part of the Female Driver Recruitment Campaign, I want women to know that if a man can do it, so can a woman. It’s a fantastic career, and I’m proud to promote the company, encourage driving as a profession, and support women in pursuing it. This is something I’m truly proud of.”

Interests

“In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, and spending time with my family. We love going out for dinner and traveling abroad whenever possible. Life is short, and we should make the most of it whenever and wherever we can. I live by the motto: treat people with dignity and kindness, and always help others, no matter how small the gesture.”
