The early 2000s were a time when all car manufacturers were choosing to make their cars softer to allow for more road-based usage. Toyota did the opposite with the Fortuner. Since the time it went into production in 2004, the Toyota Fortuner has been based on the venerable and tough Hilux platform.

First Generation | 2004 - 2015
At the Thailand Motor Expo in December 2004, Toyota revealed the Fortuner. It was a rugged and robust mid-size SUV that would quickly gain popularity in various markets around the world. The name Fortuner was derived from the word ‘Fortune.’ It was based on the seventh-generation Toyota Hilux pickup truck platform.
The Fortuner's exterior featured a bold and aggressive design with a prominent front grille, muscular body lines, and a raised stance, giving it a commanding presence on the road. It was available in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, catering to a wide range of consumers.
