Dubai Named World’s Cleanest City for Fifth Consecutive Year in Global Power City Index

Dubai has once again claimed the top position globally for city cleanliness, according to the latest Global Power City Index (GPCI) report from the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Dubai has earned this prestigious recognition, underscoring its commitment to becoming a model city of the future.

The city’s ongoing dedication to world-class living standards and environmental excellence is evident in its leadership in sustainable urban development. Dubai achieved a perfect score in the cleanliness category under the environment pillar, surpassing more than 47 cities worldwide.

This success is attributed to the tireless efforts of Dubai Municipality, which has implemented comprehensive plans and initiatives in collaboration with both public and private sector partners. These efforts align with the Dubai Integrated Garbage Management Strategy 2041, which aims for a 100% diversion of waste from landfills and an 18% reduction in waste production by that year.

Dubai Municipality remains committed to preserving the city's global prominence, sustainability, and appeal. The Municipality continues to enhance the quality of life, foster community well-being, and support Dubai’s aspiration to be the world’s premier city to live and work in by providing exceptional municipal services.

Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, attributes the city’s ongoing success in global rankings to its ambitious goal of becoming the best place to live and work. He emphasizes that Dubai’s achievements across various sectors reflect the visionary leadership of the UAE, which inspires teams to pursue excellence.

Bin Ghalita also praised the work of the Dubai Municipality’s cleanliness teams, which consist of over 3,200 engineers, supervisors, and monitors. Their dedication has maintained the city’s exceptional cleanliness standards for five years in a row. He highlighted that reaching this significant milestone required close collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as support from the broader community.

The Municipality manages an advanced sustainability and cleaning system, ensuring efficient operations year-round. Supported by a fleet of 855 modern vehicles, including cars, trucks, and specialized equipment, this system reflects Dubai’s commitment to upholding global standards.

In its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, optimize energy use, and ensure sustainability, Dubai Municipality employs cutting-edge technologies. These include the use of electric vehicles for public cleaning operations and the development of smart systems for waste collection, storage, and transportation.
