Dubai has joined forces with Elon Musk's Boring Company to introduce the 'Dubai Loop,' an innovative underground transport system set to connect the city's busiest areas with unprecedented efficiency.

The groundbreaking announcement came during the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025, where Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, described the project as a transformative leap in urban mobility.

A 'Wormhole' Experience

Musk, speaking via video link, shared his enthusiasm for the project. "It’ll feel like stepping through a wormhole – one moment you're here, the next you pop out across the city," he said. The Dubai Loop aims to eradicate surface traffic congestion, drawing inspiration from the success of the Las Vegas Loop, which operates beneath the city's convention center.

Why Underground Beats the Sky

Musk also emphasized the benefits of underground transit compared to flying cars or drones. Tunnels, he explained, offer natural protection against extreme weather, like sandstorms, while delivering a quieter, safer, and more efficient transportation alternative.

"Even in worst-case scenarios, like global thermonuclear conflict, underground remains the safest place to be," Musk noted.

The Road Ahead

While the exact design and timeline for the Dubai Loop haven't been revealed, Musk highlighted the rapid construction of the Las Vegas system, which was completed in just two years and now operates with 70 autonomous vehicles across several stations.

Dubai Loop is expected to integrate seamlessly with the city's current transportation infrastructure, reinforcing Dubai's position as a global leader in smart, sustainable urban mobility.
