??Dual Battles, Singular Courage: The Critical Intersection of Education and Poverty

Poverty remains an obstacle that inhibits poor people from accessing high-quality education despite education being held as "the weapon against poverty”.

However, sadly, costs as

??admission fees,

??books and supplies,

??uniforms, etc.

are unaffordable for most impoverished people.

Vicious cycle of poverty

Furthermore, children from disadvantaged families are often urged to earn money to maintain their households’ budget. This translates into a higher incidence of school dropouts. The lack of education hinders them from employment but also sustains the vicious cycle of poverty.

Additionally, low income areas have

  • underfunded schools,
  • lack of necessary materials,
  • unskilled teachers resulting in low educational standards.

The difference in education quality further complicates the problem for poor students. They are educated with little or no tools for competition in today’s job market.

It is critical to invest in education systems, especially in the poorer parts of society. Teacher training and development as well as providing resources and infrastructure will be involved in this.

Addressing these hindrances will reduce barriers to poor people’s education that would otherwise build an inequitable and healthy society.

An additional issue that needs equal attention (I am aware that some readers may not agree) ?? is when students come from poor countries to study.

Unfortunately, in far too many cases, it does not get any better when students come from poor countries to study in developed countries. ??

As a university professor, I've witnessed the arduous journey of students from impoverished countries. These students carry the dual burden of academic pursuits and financial responsibilities for their families. ??

They often juggle part-time jobs, sometimes more than one, sacrificing valuable study hours to send money home. Their commitment is admirable, but the toll it takes is evident in their weary eyes and the struggle to keep up with academic demands.

It's a constant battle between fulfilling familial duties and chasing educational dreams. Their resilience is inspiring, yet it underscores a harsh reality: the steep price many pay to access education's opportunities.

However, in my perspective, I see not only the challenges these students face but also their incredible bravery. It's a formidable task to leave their home country, navigate an unfamiliar academic environment, and work tirelessly to support their families.

Their courage in the face of such daunting circumstances is remarkable. They show an unwavering determination to better their lives and those of those they love, often at the cost of personal sacrifice. ????????????

This bravery doesn't just inspire me as an educator; it's also a powerful reminder of the power of human endurance and the transformative promise of education.????????

Wishing you all the best, William ??
