Dry Orange
She was a tall thin woman?
with red hair,?
strawberry blonde they call it.?
Her dress was copper and white?
her face and arms covered?
with freckles, as she stood?
on the side of the red dirt road,?
blending her into the dry orange world.
The land had been dry?
for over a year, the fields were?
as dry and orange as the road.?
She asked for water but I had none
and as I passed by I was sure?
I wasn’t the first man to disappoint?
her with truth and lies.
