#Drops 3 - Illusions

In 1990, Moscow got a McDonald's restaurant. Devastated by poverty and hunger, people gazed at the first Western restaurant in awe.

Shiny lights of capitalism promised abundance and salvation from an everyday nightmare in the soon-to-be-dissolved Soviet Union.

A decade back from that moment (1981), on the other side of the planet, MTV wanted to start a revolution in the music industry.

Yet, people laughed. A channel that plays rock 24/7? Yeah, right. MTV went almost bankrupt after a year.

Music publishers cried - "MTV is going to kill our business".

Almost no one wanted to do advertising on this new heretic channel.

Until George Lois, the inventor of The Big Idea, made the famous "I want my MTV" commercial.

A few months later, MTV was in 80% of households in America.

Reality is just a matter of perspective. Remember that every day, you're fighting to preserve your perception of reality. Good or bad? A shiny promise or revolution?

Fortunately, it's up to you to decide. Still.
