Dropping anchor in Cap-aux-Meules
Croisières du Saint-Laurent / Cruise the Saint Lawrence
Denis Bourque has been port of call manager at Port de Cap-aux-Meules for over 15 years. So when it comes to the best places to eat and drink, and the top places to see during a visit to ?les-de-la-Madeleine, he knows what he’s talking about. Here’s a roundup of his favourite spots.
What to do
“Have a gander around the art boutiques or the La Grave historical sites, grab an electric bike and cycle along the many beautiful beaches. Head out on a kayaking adventure, or a walk along the cliffs. There is no shortage of options, but you may wish you had more time to do them all!” says Denis.
What to eat
Lobster, of course! Lobster fishing season has officially begun, and some lucky cruise guests managed to watch over 300 keen harvesters head out to sea as soon as the starter pistol was fired. “Make sure you add this to your itinerary for next year!’ advises Denis. Aside from seafood, there are plenty of other local delicacies to sample. Cheese is one of them, and so is smoked herring. Visit the Fumoir d’Antan for a good history lesson, followed by delicious goodies. Read our blog article on agritourism to learn more about Fumoir d’Antan.
What to drink
Microbrasserie à l’abri de la Tempête produces amazing beers, each designed to pay homage to the beauty and rawness of the islands. Local products are used throughout the brewing process, and each sip has a little taste of the sea. If this wasn’t tempting enough, the pub boasts a beautiful view over the famous Dune de l'Ouest. So sit down and let yourself be lulled by the sound of the rolling waves as you sample a unique microbrew.
