There is so much educational value in pain.
And though I hate to start an article with that fact, it’s the truth.
The experience is universal, and what’s universal is often personal.
Research on Near Death Experiences (NDE’s) has shown that the vast majority of? experiences emerge from situations of violence or trauma.
As P.M.H. Atwater puts it, in her book “Near-Death Experiences, the rest of the story,” “Almost every experiencer I worked with said it at some point — “I got what I needed… They come to question whatever appears to be “accidental.”
In my last article entitled “Dying to Tell You: What 1000’s of Researched Near Death Experiencers Who’ve “Seen the Light Want you to Know about LIVING” I shared the 10 most common themes that NDE’ers want us to know about this life, and some of the most common elements that have been reported about the experience of “the other side,” by real people despite their culture, religion, personal beliefs, or where they lived in the world.
And at the end of that article I earnestly mention how challenging it is to try to walk our talk in this life and live as the compassionate, empathetic, forgiving people that NDE’ers say we should be.
Easier said than done, right??
I do like to tell myself that life is just one grand experiment and well… getting it “wrong,” “right,” and everything in between, is just part of the process.
In this (part 2) article, I want to pick up where we left off and share what NDE’ers have been “dying” to come back and tell us about relationships, karma and purpose.
Before we begin, let’s revisit what seems to be their most common message to us… the powerful importance of love.
- Love is the Most Important Thing: Many NDE’ers emphasize that love is the fundamental and most important aspect of existence. This includes love for yourself, love for others, and love as a universal force that connects us all.
- We Are All Connected: People often describe a deep realization that we are all part of a greater whole, and that our actions and feelings towards one another have significant impact.
- Live with Kindness and Compassion: They frequently stress the importance of living a life filled with kindness, compassion, and empathy. They encourage others to treat each other with respect, understanding, and care.
- Fear of Death is Unnecessary: Many NDE’ers report that there is no need to fear death, because it is a transition to another state of being. They often describe experiencing a sense of peace, love, and acceptance on the other side.
- Focus on What Truly Matters: People often return with a clearer sense of what truly matters in life. They advocate for focusing on meaningful relationships, personal growth, and making positive contributions to the world, rather than on material success or superficial achievements. [Nothing wrong with material success if you’re marrying it with spiritual wealth… just my opinion.]
- Life Has a Purpose: Many come back with a renewed sense of purpose and the belief that life has intrinsic meaning. They often feel called to fulfill specific missions or to live in a way that aligns with their deepest values and the lessons they learned during their NDE.
- Spiritual Awakening: They frequently describe a spiritual awakening or an enhanced understanding of spiritual truths. They often emphasize the importance of spiritual growth and the pursuit of “enlightenment” or understanding.
- Live Authentically: There is a strong emphasis on the importance of living authentically and being true to yourself. NDE’ers encourage others to follow their hearts, pursue their passions, and live in a way that is true to their inner selves.
- Forgiveness and Letting Go: Many highlight the importance of forgiveness—both of yourself and others. They often describe the release of grudges and negative emotions as a path to inner peace and spiritual growth.
- Be Present: NDE’ers often return with a greater appreciation for the present moment. They encourage others to be mindful, to savor the present, and to find joy and beauty in everyday experiences.
In essence, the overarching message is one of love, connection, and living a life of meaning and purpose.?
Of course, I then wanted to know how they felt about walking their talk since sometimes life just feels hard.
Here’s what they want us to know:
Navigating Hardships
- Resilience and Inner Strength: NDE’ers often emphasize the importance of resilience and discovering your own inner strength. They describe how their experiences have taught them that they have the capacity to endure and overcome significant challenges.
- Perspective Shift: Many people report a huge shift in perspective that helps them navigate hardships more effectively. They often see difficulties as temporary and as opportunities for growth and learning rather than insurmountable obstacles.
- Trust in a Greater Plan: There is a common belief among NDE’ers that there is a greater plan or purpose behind life's events, including hardships. This belief can provide comfort and reduce the sense of suffering during difficult times.
- Emphasis on Forgiveness: Forgiveness is a recurring theme. They often speak about the importance of letting go of grudges and resentments, which can otherwise weigh heavy on your spirit and hinder your healing.
- Living in the Present: Many NDE’ers stress the importance of living in the present moment. This mindfulness can help reduce anxiety about the future and regrets about the past, allowing you to better manage your current hardships.
But then what about happiness and joy… while we’re just down here (I say “down here” as if we live downstairs from the proverbial “stairway to heaven” ??) making material success the priority way too often, and forgetting to enjoy life?
Here’s what they want us to remember:
Common Theme: Enjoying Life and Being Happy
The overarching theme among NDE’ers is the realization that true joy and happiness come from within and are deeply tied to love, connection, purpose, and authenticity.?
They often advocate for a balanced approach to life that includes:
- Embracing both the highs and the lows as integral parts of the human experience.
- Focusing on what truly matters, such as relationships and meaningful work.
- Practicing gratitude and mindfulness to enhance everyday experiences.
- Cultivating a spiritual connection and trusting in a greater purpose.
I totally advocate for all of those…
Now let’s talk about the all important area of karma and relationships.?
If you want to know about karma or karmic relationships in general I’ve got a few videos, articles and podcasts about it. Do a little scrolling or even subscribe to my newsletter “The Privy Sage Newsletter.” ?? in bio.
Here’s what NDE’ers are “dying” to tell us:
Common Insights on Karma
- Life as a Learning Experience: Many NDE’ers describe life as a school (my favorite way to look at it) or learning experience where each soul comes to grow and evolve. They often emphasize that our actions, thoughts, and intentions have consequences that contribute to our spiritual development.
- Self-Reflection and Accountability: During their experiences, many report reviewing their lives and seeing the ripple effects of their actions on others. This life review often encourages self-reflection and a deeper understanding of personal accountability.
- Opportunity for Redemption: NDE’ers often mention that karma is not a punishment system, but rather an opportunity for redemption and growth. They emphasize that we have the power to change our future karma through positive actions and intentions.
Now what about these folx that we’ve attracted to ourselves that are sometimes fun to play with butttttttttt… sometimes… not so much…
Here’s what they want us to know:
Common Insights on Karmic Relationships
- Soul Contracts: Many NDE’ers believe in the concept of soul contracts, where souls agree to meet and interact in this lifetime to help each other learn specific lessons. These relationships, whether positive or challenging… {“challenging”… (*throws head back in laughter*) such a cute way to describe “torture” ??) are seen as purposeful and meaningful.
- Healing and Forgiveness: Karmic relationships often involve opportunities for healing and forgiveness. NDE’ers frequently share that forgiving others and yourself is crucial for resolving past karma and moving forward in spiritual growth.
- Mutual Growth: Karmic relationships are described as partnerships in mutual growth. Both individuals in the relationship are believed to contribute to each other’s learning and development, even if the experiences are difficult.
- Unconditional Love: Many NDE’ers emphasize that at the core of all karmic interactions is the lesson of unconditional love. Learning to love and accept others, as well as yourself, is often highlighted as a key aspect of resolving karmic ties.
Now let’s move out of what might seem to some as”theory,” and into some real world examples shared by NDE’s.
Real-World Examples?
- Reconnecting with Estranged Loved Ones: Some NDE’ers return with a strong urge to reconcile with estranged family members or friends, understanding that these relationships are part of their karmic journey and essential for their healing and growth.
- Changing Negative Patterns: People often recognize recurring negative patterns in their relationships and feel motivated to change these patterns. This might involve working through issues like anger, jealousy, or control to transform their interactions positively.
- Service and Compassion: Many feel a renewed sense of purpose in helping others. They often engage in acts of service and compassion. They believe that these actions help resolve karma and contribute to their soul’s evolution. Note: this is not the same as trying to clear feelings of guilt by working hard in the service of others. That’s actually martyrdom… ahem… we’re not doing that…
- Embracing Difficult Relationships: Instead of avoiding challenging relationships, NDE’ers often see them as opportunities for big time growth. They might work harder to understand and resolve conflicts, viewing these interactions as integral to their spiritual journey. But let us make peace when relationships are toxic and have run their course. Lessons learned also mean loving unconditionally AND walking away, period.
The Overall Message
The overarching message from NDE’ers regarding karma and karmic relationships is one of love, growth, and interconnectedness. They emphasize that every relationship and experience, no matter how difficult, serves a higher purpose in our spiritual evolution.?
By approaching life with compassion, mindfulness, and a willingness to learn and forgive, we can navigate our karmic lessons and contribute positively to our own and others’ growth.
There’s so much good brought back from those who have a new lease on life.
Now what then of “purpose?”
What would they like to leave us with around the topic of purpose?
Some of this may sound redundant but that’s because life, relationships and how we’re here to contribute to the world, all run along the same vein of LOVE.
Here are the most common themes around purpose from NDE’ers:
- Life is Precious and Purposeful: They frequently emphasize that every life has inherent value and meaning. They often convey that we are here for a reason, even if it isn't immediately clear.
- Love and Connection are Central: Many report that the core purpose of life revolves around love, compassion, and building meaningful relationships. The experience often illuminates the importance of connecting with others and spreading kindness.
- Follow Your Passions: NDE'ers often encourage others to pursue what truly inspires and excites them. They suggest that engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment is a key aspect of finding and living out your purpose.
- Service to Others: Helping and serving others is a recurring theme in the messages they bring back. They often feel this renewed drive to make a positive impact in the world and encourage others to do the same.
- Be True to Yourself: Authenticity is highlighted as a crucial component of living a purposeful life. They stress the importance of being true to yourself, your values, and your beliefs, rather than conforming to external expectations.
- Spiritual Growth and Learning: Many NDE'ers return with the understanding that life is a journey of spiritual growth and learning. They believe that our challenges and experiences are opportunities for personal and spiritual development.
- Presence and Mindfulness: Being present and mindful in everyday life is often crucial. People? suggest that fully experiencing each moment and appreciating the present can lead to a deeper understanding of your purpose. I’ve lived enough life to know that this is Facts. Even though it’s often easier said than done.
- Inner Peace and Contentment: Achieving inner peace and contentment is seen as part of one's life purpose. They often stress the importance of finding balance and harmony within yourself.
- Non-Materialistic Values: Many people report a shift away from materialistic pursuits. They suggest that focusing on non-materialistic values such as love, wisdom, and personal growth leads to a more meaningful life. Again no judgment. Spiritual wealth and material wealth are meant to go to bed together if you ask me.? ???
- Interconnectedness: Just like in singer and songwriter Frankie Beverly’s song, “We are One,” a sense of interconnectedness with all life is probably one of the most common themes. NDE'ers often feel that understanding and embracing this interconnectedness is crucial to living a purposeful and fulfilling life.
Well it's pretty clear that these insights from NDE'ers highlight a deep spiritual approach to understanding and living your life with purpose, focusing on love, service, authenticity, and inner growth.
A final share and a beautiful occurrence that gives hope to the world is this…
There are even documented cases where individuals with deeply ingrained prejudices, including racism, have had transformative Near-Death Experiences that significantly altered their perspectives on life.?
In his book, Lessons from the Light, Dr. Ring describes several cases where individuals who had harbored racist or prejudiced views underwent NDEs and returned with a newfound sense of love, empathy, and unity.?
These experiences often included encounters with beings of light or deep feelings of unconditional love and interconnectedness, leading to a realization of the oneness of all people regardless of race, religion, or background.
I hear (you’ll have to find proof of this one yourself ??) there is even a documented case of a former Ku Klux Klan member who experienced an NDE and came back with a completely changed perspective.?
Supposedly he reported feeling an overwhelming sense of love and unity during his experience, which fundamentally shifted his view on race and humanity.?
He subsequently left the Klan and became an advocate for peace and racial harmony.
Moral of the story. Let’s not DIE before we decide to LIVE and LOVE.
Even though I know that pain is on the path for everyone, let’s take care of our hearts, minds, bodies and spirits (to the best of our ability) by leaning into our spiritual wealth (I also have a video about that which you can find), accepting ourselves fully, following our most authentic path and healing our lives so we can help others heal theirs.?
