Drop Plan B

This was it. This was his moment. All those years of practice were for this. The moment he held that coveted first position. Ahead of everyone! First place…

 He was in the lead. Running ahead of everyone; he smiled.

But…

The thought of his competition getting the better of him was eating him from inside. He had suppressed his speed, thinking he’ll give his 100% when someone tries getting ahead of him. He was a calculative man, always had a backup plan. He looked over his shoulder to see his competition. The guy behind him was closing the distance between them, very quickly rather. Before he could speed up his legs, the guy sped past and overtook him. He gave it all he had, but could not catch up to him. He tried his best, but he knew it was of no use. His morale was broken already.

               You may work hard for years. Put in all your hard work. Fight an endless uphill battle with the aim to never fail. You’ll be disappointed to realize that you will fail. Yes, avoiding failure never works. Failure is inevitable. Instead of thinking of ways to avoid defeat, try thinking of ways you can win.

Believe me, they are NOT the same.

               What is even more dangerous is making backup plans with this mentality. Agreed, backup plans are an essential part of a business and are vital for survival. But making a Plan B to NOT fail seems a bit of overkill and anti-productive. Next time try making plans to win and maybe a backup plan specifying another way to achieve the goal.

               As Franklin Roosevelt state, ’The only thing we have to fear is fear itself’. The presence of a backup plan is proof of fear. Once you let fear set in, your resolve is compromised. Also planning for failure gives you permission to fail. Remind yourself every day that you can and you WILL succeed. Remind yourself about your strengths, the resolve in your heart to win. Successful outcomes are achieved when you plan for success, so focus your energies on Plan A and drop Plan B!
