Drop The Phone.
Ever since the first mobile phone was in a meeting and it rang, we have ALL seen people look embarrassed then mumble "I'm in a meeting I will call you back later", whilst the meeting stopped and people looked... Well they just looked...
There is an answer... For quite a while now I, along with various customers and work colleagues have implemented "QUICKSAND".... On the basis that if you were in quicksand, then the last thing you would want to do is answer the phone.
So the next time you're in a meeting or can't really talk but want to show the caller that you acknowledge their call, a simple "Quicksand" will suffice.
The rules of Quicksand are as follows.
- Upon hearing the word Quicksand the phone is immediately hung up.
- Upon saying the word Quicksand the phone is immediately disconnected
The person that says Quicksand is giving the caller the courtesy of acknowledging the call whilst not compromising either party, that person also has to reply to the call as soon as is possible.
Good Luck....

8 年It all depends on the scenario. In client meetings totally agree on silent and don't pick up. The same for some important internal meetings. However when on a busy train or noisy place or if you are concentrating on driving (as long as you are hands free) then Quicksand is a good way of acknowledgment. Again if in a meeting and on silent I have pre programmed replies stating I will call back ASAP.
