Droning on about LoS Surveys

It seems that there is a new way of performing a survey or even checking LoS to a green field site which doesn't exist. We are experimenting with the concept of using a drone to do the hard work for us. Fundamentally the idea has good merit but can we get the results we are looking for? 

Specifically designed for LoS checks, this drone is fitted with a high output Led Light which can be spotted up to 3km away and a camera to capture topology and posable obstructions near to a proposed tower deployment. Onboard GPS allows the system to be positioned precisely in one location, on a specific bearing and at a specific height. No more cherry pickers stuck in muddy fields then!  

Over short distances a drone could be used to fly a path, checking along the way that nothing is obstructing the route, however due to CAA regulations and the fact you would have to over fly areas not under your control, its a bit tricky to do, but maybe this could be an option in the future...? 

Commercially it makes sense to use a faster and more cost effective solution, maybe this one could help you.

Dear John, great idea! Have you ever thought about using a small handheld spectrum analyzer instead of the flashlight? This would make it possible to also do LoS surveys for much longer distances than just 3km.
