New Skies, New Rules

With new tch coming out comes new regulations and new policies. Here's what to expect this year from the Federal Aviation Adminstartion (FAA):

  • Part 108: For almost a year, the FAA has been working on getting a new unmanned aerial vehicle pilot certification passed that will expand on Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Operations, night flights, and regulate more on commercial drone uses for industries like delivery, agruculture and more. This new regulatoryframework is expected to be put into place sometime on 2025.
  • Part 107: As you know a new regulatory framework is currently being created y the FAA. But what does this mean for the Part 107. As of right now, the Part 107 is still the main pilot certification in terms of drone pilots. This is because the Part 107 covers small unmanned aerial vehicles and drone pilots who operate within their visual line of sight unlike the Part 108 that will cover larger unmanned aerial vehicles and pilots who operate beyond visal line of sight. (BVOLS). It is also expected that new and updated regulations will be added to the Part 107 framework.
  • National Defense Authorization Act of 2025: As of Dec. 23, 2024, a new act was passed called the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2025. This act will give the Department of Defense the authorization to conduct counter unmanned aerial system operations. It also includes a well structureed assessment that will evaulate secuirty risks of drones from overseas companies.
