The Drones Are Coming - Starting a new adventure!

Today I joined Delair, a fast-growing startup and one of the world’s leading companies within the commercial drone space. So you better get ready to hear a lot more about drones and the huge value you can get from analyzing footage from the sky!

For many years I have been sharing my passion for using technology to gather insights on what’s happening in the physical world. The last five years I have been part of an amazing team at Sigfox that has managed to extend the concept of IoT connectivity to enable companies to deploy large volumes of cheap sensors in the physical world to collect data. Sigfox was the first to see that the telecommunications networks only covered a small subset of the many sensor-based data collection opportunities and I still remember when we established the name LPWA for this new category of connectivity (the actual credit for the name goes to Jim Morrish of Machina Research with whom I worked on establishing the category).

Just like telecommunications networks only covered a subset of sensor opportunities and there was a need for LPWA to grow the market, the aerial imagery has long been limited to what is possible with satellites, helicopters and small aircrafts. But with the introduction of drones, the opportunities for capturing aerial imagery and analyzing it has exploded. The drone-enabled business opportunities are enormous and will eventually cover more or less all business verticals. The more I get to know the space, the more exciting it gets. Count on me for sharing my discoveries and ideas for what the future of drones might hold!
