Drone Regulations and Requirements

As Zimbabwe's drone industry continues to advance, we are here to keep you informed about the current regulatory landscape for drones in the country. In this edition we will look at drone regulations for potential drone operators/companies in Zimbabwe.?Operating drones in Zimbabwe is an exciting experience, but it is important to stay informed about the legal requirements to ensure both safety and compliance. Drone operations are regulated under the?Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) Regulations, Statutory Instrument 271 of 2018, which aligns with the Civil Aviation Act [Chapter 13:16]. Understanding regulations is crucial for compliance and responsible flying, keeping the skies safe for everyone.

?Here’s a summary of the key regulations you should be aware of in Zimbabwe:

1.?Ensure that you engage an organisation certified and regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe for any drone related services.

2.?Ensure that the pilots are licenced by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe.

3.?Engage an insured organisation against liability during operations.

4.?It is a requirement that all drones are registered with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe.

Part II subsection 11 of the S.I 271 of 2018, states that:

Any person who contravenes this section shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a ?ne not exceeding level 14 or to an imprisonment for a period not exceeding 15 years or to both such ?ne and such imprisonment.
