"Building and flying a drone from scratch was an incredible experience! It gave me a practical understanding of engineering principles that textbooks can’t offer." - Shrot Kumar Pandey (B-Tech, CSE, 2nd Year)
This statement from a young, soon-to-be engineer perfectly captures the essence of the recent drone technology workshop held by the Robotronics Club at KLH Bachupally. The students were introduced to the exciting world of drones under the expert guidance of Mr. Vadluri Varun, Founder & CEO of EPIT Research Labs Pvt. Ltd. The hands-on session not only deepened students’ knowledge of drone design and flight mechanics but also introduced them to the real-world impact of this transformative technology.
Throughout the workshop, the fundamentals of drone technology—from aerodynamics to electronics integration, and even the ways artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance drone capabilities—kept students in awe. Mr. Varun illustrated how drones are making a significant impact across industries such as agriculture, logistics, disaster management, and surveillance, with examples like Amazon’s Prime Air for delivery and drones assisting in precision agriculture and disaster rescue operations.

The hands-on experience, where students assembled and tested their own drones, was the centre of attraction throughout the workshop. Provided with kits that included motors, propellers, flight controllers, and batteries, they worked in groups to build prototypes, test stability, and understand the intricate mechanics behind drone flight. This workshop allowed them to see firsthand how engineering principles come to life in a practical setting.
Students were full of creative ideas, such as adding thermal cameras for disaster response and designing modular drones that could switch between tasks like surveillance and delivery. Their innovative thinking highlighted the growing potential of drones to shape the future of technology. This workshop was more than just learning how drones work—it was an opportunity to experience the fundamentals of design and assembly, gaining insights into the importance of precision in assembly and calibration, teamwork, and problem-solving.
One of the highlights of the workshop was when a group successfully tested a drone fitted with a custom-designed payload system. Another unforgettable moment came during a collaborative troubleshooting session, where students worked together to solve flight instability challenges.
This workshop has set the stage for more advanced sessions on topics like autonomous drone navigation and AI integration, as well as exciting drone competitions and projects to further challenge and inspire the students. The Robotronics Club at KLH Bachupally is also planning to launch more initiatives focused on swarm drones and autonomous systems, ensuring that students continue to engage with cutting-edge technologies that will shape the future of drone technology.
