As a member of the new generation, I find tremendous inspiration in witnessing the rising awareness and firm dedication to sustainable development among our peers. This marks the beginning of a new era where we not only strive to change our lifestyles and consumption patterns but also actively contribute to technological advancements that significantly impact achieving sustainability.
Our generation faces a complex challenge. It is not just about taking over existing practices and providing economically attractive, sustainable solutions. We must also address the environmental issues caused by past practices and excessive pollutant generation.
Consider, for instance, the staggering number of end-of-life tires discarded each year, estimated to be around 1.8 billion. The slow decomposition rate of these tires, spanning over a hundred years, poses a major environmental concern. Traditional disposal methods like landfills and incineration present hazards such as contamination and toxic chemical emissions. Such practices are incompatible with the sustainable world we strive to create. For this reason, the concept of repurposing end-of-life cycle tires through pyrolysis processes has garnered continuous attention. A significant challenge arises when it comes to utilizing waste tire pyrolysis oil obtained from these tires as a direct alternative fuel. This is primarily due to its high nitrogen, sulfur, and aromatic content, which necessitates further treatment and upgrading.

I am proud to be working on a new development called AQP Fuels, a catalytic process to address this issue. Our self-sustainable technology utilizes a range of in-house developed catalysts to upgrade waste tire pyrolysis oil into top-quality fuels. The success of our process lies in its high-performance catalysts, which enable efficient hydrotreating, cracking, and hydrogen generation reactions at lower temperatures and pressures than conventional processes. This increased efficiency promises lower energy consumption and reduced capital investment and operational costs. Thus, our technology offers a viable solution for repurposing waste tire pyrolysis oil while providing high-quality fuels from a sustainable source, thereby enabling a circular economy for tires.
While transitioning to a more sustainable future is a long journey, it is essential to recognize that our sustainability efforts must also address today's technologies, predominantly fossil oil-related. We can establish a sustainable pathway during the transition by enhancing efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of these existing technologies. We are working on an "OMNI" concept that has the capability of upgrading waste oils and fossil oils interchangeably. This is very exciting!
Embracing sustainability is a journey that calls for collective and open-mindedness from all generations. It is a shared responsibility and a chance for us to create a lasting impact. The key takeaway message is clear: whether it's developing innovative technologies or enhancing the efficiency of existing ones, every step we take to lower our society's carbon footprint is a win. I strive to prioritize innovation, efficiency, and ecological responsibility as we build a better world together.

1 年Great Lilia. Now we can see our used tires (which are more than 30% natural rubber) as future fuels instead of as pollutants
