Taking a Holistic View on Sustainability

The hospitality industry contributes significantly to global carbon emissions, with hotels alone accounting for around 21% of the sector's total emissions. However, at limehome, we take a holistic view of sustainability, considering not just energy consumption but also emissions from construction, procurement, and operations. limehome is dedicated to optimizing emissions across all scopes.

Selection and planning of properties: setting the bar high

From the outset, we set high standards for the properties we choose. We focus on sustainable real estate, aligning with the EU taxonomy and utilizing environmentally friendly materials for maintenance and final renovations. We actively support our project partners in sustainable planning and obtaining sustainability certificates, ensuring that sustainability permeates every aspect of our operations. Our focus on converting existing commercial assets and refurbishing properties results in a significantly favorable carbon footprint compared to new development strategies. Moreover, our tech-enabled approach maximizes space efficiency, significantly reducing emissions per guest compared to traditional operators.

Sustainable Operation: Smart Solutions for Energy Efficiency

Reducing energy consumption is a cornerstone of our sustainability efforts and operational activities. Generally, our tech-enabled operating concept allows us to streamline processes and optimize resource utilization, as we can minimize on-site staff and maximize space efficiency. By reducing the reliance on personnel for day-to-day operations, we can minimize energy demand associated with traditional hotel operations. This includes the energy used for lighting, heating, cooling, and other utilities in areas like reception desks, staff offices, and common areas where personnel would typically be present. This optimization also ensures that the available space is primarily used for accommodating guests, minimizing the energy required for air conditioning and lighting in unused areas and allowing us to better control energy consumption: Through meticulous cooling and heating load calculations, we optimize energy usage in our properties. By integrating smart home technology, we're able to achieve significant reductions in consumption—up to 50% in bathrooms and around 15% in other areas. It's a win-win: for the environment and for our guests' comfort.?

Room Control Pilot Project: Innovative Energy Management

As part of a room control pilot project in collaboration with Betterspace GmbH, we implemented radiator control in ten suites of our limehome Garching and measured the heat consumption. The results are average savings of 28 percent. We are now working on leveraging these findings to optimize energy use across our other locations.

Promotion of Sustainable Energy Sources: Powering the Future Responsibly

From day one, limehome has been committed to sourcing 100% renewable energy across all our markets. By relying on renewable sources such as wind, water, and solar energy, we significantly slash emissions compared to conventional energy sources like coal, gas, or oil. It's a conscious choice for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

Low-Emission commodities: Making Every Detail Count

Even the smallest details matter in our quest for sustainability. That's why we meticulously select service providers and furniture suppliers based on ecological criteria. Moreover, we enforce sustainability standards with our partners and suppliers to minimize emissions throughout our supply chain. A staggering 95% of our furniture comes from European manufacturers, reducing transportation emissions. We also have high standards when it comes to our in-room products, where we offer sustainable consumables in our suites to ensure that every aspect of our guests' stay is in line with our commitment to sustainability. Additionally, donations of furniture we no longer use to local institutions further minimize our environmental impact.
