Driving Scientific Innovation in ALS

Global ALS Awareness Day takes place on June 21 for an important reason: it is a solstice and a turning point in the year. Turning points encourage us as they are symbolic of new hope. Nowhere is that more important than in scientific research and discovery.???

Next week at #DIA2023 in Boston, I will have the privilege of joining my colleagues to discuss our shared mission to uncover promising new ways to transform what is possible for people living with ALS. Looking for a turning point in ALS is a hope shared with each and every member of this community that I am proud to be a part of.??

The ALS community: fighting for a better future??

Patient communities are at the center of everything we do, and their experiences must serve as our signpost every step of the way. I have treated and cared for people living with ALS for more than 10 years and know first-hand that clinical research remains the greatest source of hope for this community. By participating in clinical trials, people living with ALS – and their family members and care partners – contribute tremendously to accelerating science and innovation. Their valuable participation not only fuels progress but also ensures that research is firmly grounded in their unique experiences.?

We consulted with and followed the guidance of ALS advocacy groups and community members to shape the design and conduct of Himalaya clinical trial. It is an incredible responsibility to support this community and we know that every minute counts.?

Innovation: the cornerstone of hope in ALS?

At #DIA2023 next week, I look forward to joining the ‘Shining the Light on ALS’ DIAmond session to discuss emerging science for new ALS treatments. The scientific community is committed to exploring different treatment approaches with the critical goal of addressing the significant unmet needs that exist in neurological diseases like ALS. Working together is the only way to drive our mission of changing the standard of care and delivering hope for people with ALS.?
