Driving Innovation and Growth in Real Estate Through Collaboration and Technology
Broll Property Group (Pty) Ltd
Professional Property Services - Since 1975
As we reflect on the transformative events that shaped the real estate industry in September, it's clear that collaboration, resilience, and innovation are the pillars driving progress across Africa. The real estate landscape is evolving rapidly, and as property managers, we are at the forefront of these shifts, using technology to optimise operations, drive sustainability, and foster growth.
Combating Corruption in Construction - Leading the Fight for Ethical Leadership
Our Group CEO, Malcolm Horne , participated in the University of Johannesburg’s Combating Corruption Summit. This high-level gathering of over 400 senior decision-makers tackled one of the most pressing issues facing the construction industry: corruption. Discussions focused on the detrimental impact of construction mafias on trust and operational efficiency. The takeaway was clear - ethical leadership is critical for driving sustainable growth in South Africa's corporate landscape.
A recent report by PwC highlighted that corruption costs South Africa's economy nearly R700 billion annually. For the real estate sector, fostering trust and transparency is essential not only to maintain operational integrity but also to ensure long-term resilience.
SAPOA Convention 2024 Building Resilience Through Data and Technology
The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Convention provided a platform for exploring how the property sector can drive resilience and innovation. With technology as a key enabler, we focused on how enhancing data accuracy and real-time insights can optimise tenant engagement and reduce operational costs.
"IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DATA" was a core message at SAPOA, as we explored how technology can empower property owners to achieve exceptional results. For example, data-driven operations have been shown to increase asset efficiency by up to 25%. As we continue to lead with technology, our mission is to turn insights into actionable strategies that benefit both asset owners and tenants.
Public Sector Innovation - Driving Change with Technology and Sustainability
At the 14th Annual Public Sector Property & Asset Management Conference, our Group Head of Public Sector, 'Mantsikoe Moiloa , emphasised the role of technology and sustainable practices in transforming public sector properties. Discussions around co-ownership models and the integration of advanced tools showcased how the public sector can adopt innovative strategies to optimise asset management.
"The public sector must embrace sustainability and tailor solutions that not only address current challenges but also drive long-term growth. Technology is the key to unlocking a resilient future for public sector property management," noted Mantsi.
In 2023 alone, global investments in sustainable real estate surpassed $36 billion, showing the growing importance of ESG in property development. By leading these discussions, Broll continues to shape a forward-thinking real estate landscape in the public sector.

PropTech Forum - Transforming Real Estate with Technology
During the API Summit’s PropTech Forum, it became clear that technology is transforming how properties are managed and operated. PropTech’s power lies in its ability to improve accountability, transparency, and efficiency by turning numbers into actionable insights. While this level of visibility can create apprehension, the opportunities for reskilling the workforce and enhancing operations are immense.
At Broll, our in-house tech solutions allow us to stay ahead of industry changes, ensuring we can seamlessly integrate traditional real estate practices with cutting-edge technology. Strong leadership, clear metrics, and organisational buy-in remain vital to fully realising PropTech’s potential.
As Tony Sekyere , CEO of Broll Ghana Ltd , highlighted, "The shift towards USD leases and diversification into data centers in Ghana is only the beginning. PropTech is enabling local investors to engage with the market more dynamically, providing the insights they need to make informed decisions."
The Way Forward - Innovation, Collaboration, and Ethical Leadership
Across all these pivotal events, one theme consistently emerged: collaboration and ethical leadership are key drivers of progress in real estate. Whether we are combating corruption, optimising assets through technology, or championing sustainability, the path forward lies in working together.
Broll Property Group remains committed to fostering partnerships, embracing innovation, and driving sustainable growth across Africa’s real estate industry. 5 个月Dear Broll Ghana, thanks for the clear insights and your frontier-expanding outlook in the property space. I'm however a bit curious about the shift to USD leases alluded to in the article and wish kindly to be further enlightened on how collaborative and informative the effort has been in this context judging from Ghana's rather vexatious battle with land and property issues and their regulation over the last few decades. Once again well done and kudos.
