Henry Ford was a man obsessed with a singular mission - to make automobiles affordable for every working American family. His revolutionary Model T realized that dream beyond his wildest imagination, permanently transforming transportation and the very fabric of society itself.

When the Model T first rolled off the assembly line in 1908, it was defiantly priced at $850 - one of the most expensive cars Ford had ever built. However, it quickly captivated the nation. Within days, a staggering 15,000 orders poured in, rocketing Ford Motor Company to become the largest automaker in America.

The car for everyone!!!

But Ford's vision extended far beyond just designing a ground breaking new car. He needed to radically reinvent the very process of mass production through his revolutionary Highland Park assembly line in 1913. By having the work flow towards the workers in streamlined steps, it slashed the Model T's assembly time from a staggering 12 hours down to just 90 minutes.

The impact was phenomenal - by 1914, Ford was single-handedly out-producing every other car company combined with over 300,000 Model Ts rolling off his line annually. By 1916, he cranked out nearly one million units as half of all cars on the road globally were Fords. It seemed Ford's dream was rapidly becoming a reality.

Most entrepreneurs would have been content to bask in such unrivalled success. But not Henry Ford. In an audacious stroke of strategy, as his production volumes climbed, he systematically kept slashing the Model T's price year after year. The $850 car cost just $360 by 1916 - bringing car ownership within reach of millions of American families for the first time.

Ford didn't stop there. Realizing that high turnover from the tedium of assembly line work threatened his production miracle, he took the radical step of doubling employee wages to an unheard of $5 per day. While mocked by rivals who predicted it would bankrupt his company, the move ensured a stable, committed workforce as the best mechanics flocked to Detroit.

"We believe in making 25,000 men prosperous and contented rather than slave drivers in our establishments," Ford declared. His pioneering policies raised the bar for workers' rights and living standards across American industry.

For nearly two decades, the Model T delivery van, runabout, and touring cars remained the driving forces behind Ford's staggering success and America's transformation into a nation of motorists. Ford stubbornly rebuffed pressures to update the Model T with more modern designs until sales began plummeting in the late 1920s.

Even then, Ford's masterpiece left an indelible legacy by putting the world on wheels through his affordable pricing, game-changing assembly lines, and enlightened labour practices. From his humble beginnings as a Michigan farm boy tinkering with a preposterous "quadricycle," Henry Ford's unconquerable drive to build cars "for the great multitude" sparked a social revolution that opened up the highways to domestic mobility and economic freedom for every American family.
