Driving Change in HIV/AIDS Treatment: Immunify.Life’s Work in Kenya

In Kenya, HIV/AIDS remains a critical public health issue, with over 1.5 million people living with HIV and approximately 52,000 new infections each year. Despite efforts to curb the spread of HIV, treatment adherence continues to be a challenge, impacting both individual and community health outcomes. Many patients struggle to stay in treatment due to economic hardships, social stigma, and lack of consistent healthcare support. At Immunify.Life, we’ve implemented a novel, data-driven strategy to address these barriers head-on, setting the stage for broader application in similar communities.

Empowering Patients

Our current pilot study in Kenya seeks to address these challenges by not only tracking treatment adherence but also incentivising patients to stay in care. Through blockchain-powered data collection and secure digital records, we’ve created a reliable, tamper-proof system that enables healthcare providers to follow patients’ treatment journeys in real time. Importantly, we provide care incentives and transport assistance to help patients overcome practical barriers to treatment.

This incentive-based model is designed to support individuals in adhering to their medication plans, reducing dropout rates and contributing to long-term health improvements. By empowering patients to prioritise their health, we aim to improve quality of life and prevent further HIV transmission within communities.

A Data-Driven Path to Better Policies

Our multi-year study, conducted in partnership with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, has commenced analysis of the preliminary data from our pilot phase. The insights gained will be invaluable in demonstrating the impact of incentives on treatment adherence, shaping our understanding of how best to support HIV/AIDS patients in similar settings. Ultimately, our findings can support evidence-based policy development in Kenya and beyond, paving the way for scalable, impactful interventions that prioritise patient care and outcomes.

Stay tuned as we continue to share updates on the progress and impact of our work in Kenya. Together, we’re driving meaningful change in the fight against HIV/AIDS, one patient at a time.
