Overview:
Trust, Ethos, Credibility are key to successful personal and professional relation. It helps to initiate sustainable emotional, informational or materialistic transactions.
By inculcating the culture of trust, we encourage people around us to be considerate towards making the choices in our favor and remain collaborative directly or indirectly.
What we look when we choose to Trust Some one:
Rarely, trust is infinite.
Trust also has a shelf life, it grows, stagnates or sometime fades away, if not worked upon timely. The nature of this reciprocal relationship changes and needs to be investigated on economical and sociological directions.[i]
AI, ML OR Deep Learning, Game Theories continue to predict the outcomes based on perception analysis, and other millions of factors.
These are set of numerous discovered, yet to be discovered, understood, misunderstood triggers, drivers or stimulus.
The Drivers of Trust: The main drivers of trust are
1. Communication: Verbal and Non-Verbal are part of the initial Trust Building Process. Similar Language, some time even the Dialect and Culture becomes the inherent part of the Communication and key driver of Trust Building Process, even in this Global Economy.
“Cultural legacies are powerful forces. They have deep roots and long lives. They persist, generation after generation, virtually intact, even as the economic and social and demographic conditions that spawned them have vanished, and they play such a role in directing attitudes and behavior that we cannot make sense of our world without them.”
― Malcolm Gladwell, Outliers: The Story of Success
2. Competence: Competence helps to narrow down our Trust Building Process, often trust is categorized to under domain or functionality. For example, we cannot trust the most trusted pilot to conduct surgery or to teach any obscure art or painting. Even if the person has good communication and courage and he does not have competence the trust is never built up or it is very short-lived.
3. Compassion: People tend to trust more or develop biases in favor of the person who not only has the competence but also compassionate about what concerns us. To put it straight and simple compassion speaks about the flow of energy, no one likes to be around energy less person.
“In fact, researchers have settled on what they believe is the magic number for true expertise: ten thousand hours.”
― Malcolm Gladwell, Outliers: The Story of Success
4. Courage: Nothing is more trustworthy than the ability to take tough decision, successful execution of the task, winning over the hurdles to achieve the desired Results.
No one would like to trust the coward.
..If you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires. (151)”
― Malcolm Gladwell, Outliers: The Story of Success
5. Care: Care delights the Customer Personal Relation alike. Often mutual, if we do not care, no one would care to Trust, we need to continue to demonstrate how much we care. Continuous care can even repair or heal the distrust of the past.
6. Empathy: Empathy is beyond care, if we express our empathy besides care, we are more likely to be trusted compared to the person who is only caring.
7. Empowering: We must inculcate the habit of empowering the leadership, or next line of command and every citizen of the corporate of social ecosystem. They tend to trust more when they move up on the Physiological, Social or Economic Pyramid.
8. Ethics: On a global scale Ethics is often a provincial dilemma and one must make sure, globally accepted norms of ethics do not conflict with the local ethics, and vice versa.
Ethics are those conducts highly related to personal and societal conscience, even if revealed to our near and dear ones, it would not put them into shame rather they would feel proud of.
9. Respect: Every human Personality has a Child, Adult and Parenting Ego at the same time. The people who are part of older civilizations like Arabic or Asian are more This is more applicable to the people who have Parenting Ego Status, if they are not immensely respected they feel ignored or insulted and would never trust the person, even the conflicting feedback needs to be given in the most respectful manner. One needs to practice inner harmony and patience for sure.
10. Transparency: No one would like to be betrayed or surprised oddly.
Sharing and hiding the extent and time of information is a conflict we all human go through. The right timing and to the exact extent can make us win the trust for a long time.
The Trust Deficit
The Drivers of Trust are used strategically when deciding how much and when to trust someone, when people’s expectations are not met, trust and indeed entire relationship are seriously undermined.
Correcting the trust deficit is never as easy act and it might some time take generations of evidence-based path of corrections to regain the lost trust.
Building on The Trust Cycle
Explore We need to explore the key insights some time it hugely hidden needs which needs to be unveiled through different combination of psychological and statistical tool to conclude the actionable areas
Confirm It has also been seen that the person with whom we need to build the trust “does not know what he does not know” it takes time, efforts and continuous persuasion to get the “YES” as a confirmatory nod to work upon.
Commit Never in the past Social, Economic or Political world was so dynamic, the intrinsic valued of commitment has been eroding very fast. No one wants to trust the commitments, until and unless convincing Rationale, Resources and Compelling Stories are not told.
Deliver and Delight Nothing more satisfying and delightful than timely delivery of agreed commitments and promises. Consistent delivery of promised helps to build sustainable trustworthy relations.
It is prudent to promise little less than one expects to deliver, rather overstating it.
I have tried to jot down few of the most critical key drivers Trust Building, obviously building and developing trust is not limited to this extent only but much beyond.
It would be great to have your feedback.
Thanks
