Autonomous, driverless vehicles are no longer just the future - they are here today. As reported in The Guardian on August 11, 2023,3, Google-owned Waymo and General Motors-owned Cruise can now operate 24 hours a day in San Francisco and San Mateo. This makes San Francisco one of the first cities in the nation with round-the-clock driverless ride services, increasing accessibility for many people.

As self-driving technology scales, data and intelligence will be key enablers. That's why we're proud to work with ?Foresight AI Inc (https://www.foresight.ai/)- our client, ?a well-funded company in Silicon Valley that is building a data platform to empower autonomous mobility.

FORESIGHT AI: DRIVING OUR AUTONOMOUS FUTURE WITH DATA

Founded in Silicon Valley, Foresight AI is building a global-scale data and intelligence platform for autonomous vehicles and other mobile robots. Realistic, three-dimensional, semantic data will empower and enable robots to develop human-like intelligence.

Foresight AI is establishing a "training academy" for intensively training the mobile robots to navigate the world autonomously, safely and naturally. This immersive simulation environment replicates real-world driving scenarios. The training academy is a subscription-based data and software service.

At KiteMetric, we built a complete software suite for Foresight AI including ingestion, processing, management and visualization of 2D and 3D data to empower autonomous vehicles. This includes:

? Labeling platform: a web platform powered by a global workforce to serve 2D, 3D data annotation, map annotation, and video tracking annotation.

? Data portal: a web portal to quickly visualize all dataset’s layers including: 3D vehicle tracks, semantic maps, orthographic images, 3D point cloud data to present human driving scenarios. It helped customers to have a quick view of the datasets.

? Scenario manager: a querying platform to retrieve and visualize a large number of human driving scenarios based on their characteristics, for example, driving speed, location type, weather, time of the day, etc


To build Foresight AI's high-performance and scalable autonomous vehicle platforms, our engineering teams leveraged cutting-edge technologies across modern software stacks:

On the front-end, we used Three.js for responsive 3D visualizations, alongside other libraries like React, Redux, Mapbox, OpenLayers, UberAVS and Deck.GL to enable fast geospatial querying and data analysis.

On the back-end, we processed large datasets with point cloud tools like PDAL and GDAL, while applying deep learning for semantic segmentation and detections. We scaled storage and queries with PostgreSQL, PostGIS and pgpointcloud, while also using document databases like MongoDB where schema-less flexibility was needed. For cloud infrastructure, we containerized services using Docker for stability and portability, deploying on Amazon AWS to leverage on-demand computation, storage and delivery networks.

This combination of data science, visualization, database and cloud technologies allowed us to handle large volumes of geospatial data, power intelligent processing, and deliver highly responsive autonomous platforms.

By leveraging the most innovative open source libraries and optimized cloud infrastructure, we were able to keep pace with the rapidly evolving self-driving vehicle space
