The Driver of the Future

The Driver of the Future

The automotive industry of the future has the potential to be unrecognizable from that of today, and greater connectivity will be one of the key pillars supporting any transformation. While in-vehicle connectivity is currently limited to a few original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and segments, there is great anticipation for significant growth over the next five years.?

The anticipated investment in this space is significate as connectivity becomes a strategic priority for the automotive industry. OEMs and other supply chain players will need an agile/start-up mindset to drive innovation and services. To stay ahead of the competition, OEMs will need to change their approach to R&D. OEMs, for example, will begin to collaborate closely with developer communities to design customer-facing apps and interfaces quickly. OEMs will also need to hire people with diverse skill sets and may find themselves competing for talent with established software firms.

Automotive Industry Disruption

Our vehicles have been linked to the internet for so long that we no longer give them a second thought when we connect them to our phones, register for traffic updates, listen to music via streaming services, or need to call for help on the road. In fact, automakers first connected cars to the Internet in the 1990s. The automotive business has the longest and richest history of bridging the gap between drivers and technology.

The significance of transportation in our lives is unlikely to change in the near future. However, the way we use and interact with products from the automotive industry is likely to change. Customer interactions with vehicles will change as a result of both demand and manufacturer technology choices.?

The digital experience of the client evolves in tandem with technological improvements. OEMs must ensure a similar experience within their vehicles to facilitate the seamless interaction between gadgets and applications in a variety of "Smart" environments. The path is clear for how connected technology is likely to develop in the automotive industry, given what we know about connected technology in other industries.

Automobile manufacturers and mobility service providers are being pushed to the brink of innovation by drivers' rising expectations for a streamlined digital user experience. Seamless connectivity will become as vital as the engine itself as more and more features of vehicles become available on demand.

Although connectivity is nothing new, the car of the future will need to provide a truly immersive experience for its passengers. IoT and edge computing are opening up a whole new world of possibilities for product manufacturers, which will have an effect on how customer service is delivered to the general public.??

Connected automobiles have been the Internet of Things' most publicized success story. However, genuine IoT innovations in the automotive sector are occurring hidden from public view as automakers and software providers fight for control of the steering wheel as automobiles become more and more software-driven. Businesses that don't take connectivity seriously run the risk of losing touch with their clientele and being forced to concentrate on producing hardware rather than joining the ranks of industry innovators.
