Weekly Talent Insight - Are you using Data to make your talent choices?

This week's talent insight is provided by Lee Jolley .

It’s so important to plan thoroughly when choosing a location to hire in.?Most organizations we speak to that are struggling to hire in the D&A only considered how many candidates there are before deciding on a location.?

Unfortunately, you may end up in a battle for the best candidates with some of your biggest competitors and find yourself out of your depth.

For example, say you're looking for a location to develop a Data Engineering function on the West Coast of the US, what metrics should you consider before choosing a location to hire in??

Let’s compare California & Washington State.

No. of Candidates

  • California – 17,000
  • Washington - 6400

The ratio of available candidates: (current live job vacancies)

  • California 1.7: 1
  • Washington 3.2: 1

Current average salary

  • California $181,200
  • Washington $140,000

So, from just these 3 criteria, we can see that hiring in California will not only be more difficult, but it will also cost substantially more! Due to there being 1.7 candidates for every job vacancy, it’s going to be considerably harder to stand out in comparison to Washington's 3.2 candidates per job vacancy.?

We understand this data isn’t readily available for everyone, which is why we have invested heavily in our own insights into the global talent market. We can also provide insights into Gender split, experience breakdown, and which education institutes are producing the most talent, amongst much more!?
