Together they discussed how to move data from a cost centre to a value creator, which includes a transformation journey that has been ongoing for over a century, why some D&A teams are still seen as a cost centre and not a value-creating function and why demonstrating value creation is a primary responsibility of a Data Leader/CDO.

Listen to this week's episode, here.

Pop Culture Predicting the Future We're Already in? Weekly Insight

This week's insight blog is brought to you by, Natalia Kurasinski !

As a fan of the dystopian series ‘Black Mirror’ where there have been episodes that have involved characters living through their past through VR, a big focus on the hype of true crime documentaries, and the futuristic science episode where you have the opportunity to boost your social media score, I did think when are we going to see an episode based on Data & AI??

I felt like the 2023 series seemed to be the best time for it with the likes of AI and ChatGPT seemingly taking over and then the last episode I watched ‘Joan is Awful’ (highly recommend) had me thinking for hours…?

‘What if I came home from work one night and there’s a new series of my life on the TV for all my peers, family and colleagues to watch?’?

WARNING: SPOILER?ALERT

This episode focuses on ‘Streamberry’ (AKA Netflix) and shows the ability of streaming services to collect users’ data that allows them to monitor their viewers. Now we all have those conversations where we believe that phones can hear us speaking, our laptop cameras could get hacked into and ‘Joan is Awful’ presents how future writers could be replaced by AI-generated showings of human lives.?

Now if you’re anything like me, this sends shivers down my spine!?

For a streaming website to take pretty much all of your data, including your IP address, GPS coordinates, and visual and audio data, to me I’d see this as a breach.?

Shortly after watching this episode, I got speaking with a friend of mine that is involved in the filming industry and she let me know that writers were going on strike due to artificial intelligence potentially becoming a major concern for writers as they could get replaced by ChatGPT in the future. With the current climate, this could lead to more job cuts and some of the most famous writers in the world having their material to be used as training data for AI systems.?

More on this in Thursday's full blog.

That's everything for this week so let's jump to the weekly data joke!

Why did the data scientist bring a penguin to the office?

Because they heard they were great at clustering!

Thanks!

OMG!!! It's HERE!!! It's HERE!!! I remember when newsies "hawked" the daily newspapers on the Streets of NYC. It was exciting to hear them shout the day's headlines. That's the excitement when the Orbition Group newsletter arrives... and it doesn't cost a dime. It's HERE!!! Issue Sweet 16 is HERE!!! And it is typically packed with good stuff... I don't even know where to start. Your Mentorship Program (AKA in my home as MentOrbition Cohort 4.0) is in full swing. The learning and growing continues. You've got a link to Driven By Data: The Podcast with host?Kyle Winterbottom?and his guest?Steven Pimblett, Chief Data Officer at?The Very Group... that is very good at combining over 2000 amazing brands and their own popular brand collections with a range of flexible payment options to help families get more out of life... all by making a good advantage of data!!! And there's more... a preview for the upcoming Roundtable... though it's really multiple round tables and not one big roundtable... because Orbition Group would need a roundtable the size of the EARTH. And there's Ethan Simpkin, making cents of data, and Natalia Kurasinski, predicting the future (she must have a real crystal ball). OMG!!! It's HERE!!!
