Driving in the rain can be both scary and dangerous and it’s important to take weather seriously when you’re in the road. Here are few safety tips, but most importantly, you have to drive according to the conditions and adjust a few of your habits to avoid sliding, skidding or being involved in a collision.
- Wait until the weather improves, if possible
- Double check your car’s equipment – Engine, Tyres, Lights, Wipers, Air-conditioner
- Make it easier to see by turn on air-conditioner, if windshield begins fogging
- Turn on wipers, visibility is usually compromised in rainy condition
- Always drive slowly – Slow down on turns
- Try and Stay in the middle – don’t take risk of driving into large potholes and flooding the engine
- Go Around – never go through a puddle, because it’s tough to tell how deep the water is. Take alternate route
- Maintain 2 – Second Stopping Distance – wet surface affect braking
- Make Yourself Visible – use headlights, front fog lights, rear fog lights, DRLs, and even taillights
- Pull Over And Wait - in open space with no trees or poles around as lighting could be another problem.
- Stay Attentive
- Drive Slow Around Bends/Curves – don’t skid or lose control due to wet road curves
- Avoid Driving in Thunder and Lightning
