At Nashville Wine Auction, we’re known for our love of wine — but at the heart of our work is a love for those experiencing or who know someone experiencing a cancer diagnosis.?

All of our patrons have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis, creating a sense of community before even stepping into an event. We’re drinking wine with purpose and while that purpose is to help fund the fight against cancer, our patrons give and receive much more than just a glass of wine.?

1. Plugging into your community can boost your social wellbeing.

What is social wellbeing? It’s an overarching term for how you function in a social setting: forming and maintaining relationships; feeling a sense of belonging in your community; and contributing to your community.?

For many, building a network starts with those who share similar interests and values. When you find people who speak the same "language" as you, you connect on a level deeper than the surface. These feelings of belonging, can increase your confidence.?

Finding a community where you belong can also be the foundation for expanding your network as you meet new people and explore new opportunities.?

Many of our patrons have found a community of friends by attending Nashville Wine Auction events. These friendships extend past Nashville Wine Auction events — leading them to even deeper connections.?

2. Giving back improves mental and physical health.?

Joining in service as an event guest, volunteer or donor can reap amazing benefits for mental and physical health.?

Altruistic activities like volunteering and donating can release endorphins, which leads to a decrease in stress and promotes relaxation. Volunteering can also expose you to new opportunities and allow you to develop new skills.?

Mental health can also be improved by getting involved with an organization; seeing the positive impact of your contributions can boost self-worth and confidence. A network that understands the same things — such as the grief associated with a cancer diagnosis or loss — can provide a safe space to find support.?

“I support causes that fight cancer because everyone in my family who has passed away in prior generations has died from that disease,” Nashville Wine Auction patron Marc Goldstone says. “Working together, we can fund the fight and end the impact of cancer on future generations. I do this for my family, for my community, and for me.”

Of course, we do drink wine and that is exceptionally more fun with friends! Having the opportunity to engage in discourse and give back alongside like-minded individuals has proven to increase length of life.
