building the worlds largest online technical community at @torc.dev | vp of global community
hey fam!! another week down at torc and MAN its been a wild one. it’s currently 8:34pm on a thursday night in cincinnati where i’m in my hotel room decompressing after an amazing 48 hours at momentum developer conference. had probably my best session ever today speaking to a standing room only crowd. should out to michael richardson and his crew for putting on a hell of a conference. highly recommend checking it out next year.
to catch up on on all the happenings of the last week, I spent the majority of it up in boston where torc HQ is located. it was an amazing 3 days of workshopping with the other leaders of torc in where we want to go. it is interesting, community is a word thrown around a lot and everyone kind of has a different meaning so it’s been my focus on what to define as ‘community’ vs our ‘platform’ i.e. torc.dev. whether its right or wrong ‘community’ to me means how many people show up to your meetups/live streams/discord etc. IMO we don’t have much of a ‘community’ so we are going to change that
right now my job has a few focuses but the two main focuses are…
I won’t get into the nuts and bolts of everything because if I did it would be a TLDR email but one of the things I am focused on is growing a recruiting team in LATAM to help address numbers. in full transparency, our LATAM numbers have dipped lately and that doesn’t sit well with me so I am pulling from my background of recruiting and looking for some amazing recruiters to help knock down doors (in the most polite way possible) of communities in LATAM.
my partner in crime briana holmes is focused on setting up email campaigns showing how to use our platform, how to fill out your profile and keep, you updated on the events we are starting. she is also setting up fun social media ads in LATAM to raise awareness as well.

if you haven’t watched it yet I dropped our first ‘build in public’ vlog. this has been a dream of mine, and thankful for torc supporting me in this vision. i truly believe every company should have a built-in public vlog like this.
appreciate you all. talk next week!
