DRINK YOUR WAY TO HEALTH IN 2021
Consuming liquids by sipping them all day long is an excellent way to get nutrients that are abundantly bioavailable and easy to digest.
I generally have 3 or so beverages on constant rotation at any given time during the day. I’m about to heat a quart of broth some will be transformed into an egg drop soup.
I very rarely drink just water. My aim when I consume anything is to get the most bang for the buck. So I don’t just want water, I want water and nutrients. Herbal teas are a great way to fit this bill. I drink about 3, 20 ounce cups per day.
Pictured in the middle is a glass of kombucha. We like to be all phancy over here and drink our kombucha from wine glasses.
The mason jar is actually a magnesium/potassium supplement that I started drinking with my husband, we are using it to treat his hypertension. I have long known that headaches can be partially caused by magnesium deficiency. My headaches always start as tension headaches, with my shoulders, neck and base of skull or other facial muscles being tense for long periods of time thus causing tension with all these muscles at once. The magnesium supplement has greatly helped this because magnesium is necessary for muscles to….relax.
In the magnesium supplement I also add water, fresh squeezed lemon juice, a few drops of tangerine essential oil (great for promoting one of the liver detoxification systems) and a pinch of RealSalt, which contains 60+ trace minerals. Nutrients always work with other nutrients, so there are lots of different minerals in this mason jar of water.
My daily rotation of nutrient dense beverages generally include:
- Herbal teas, 60 ounces or more of a variety sipped throughout the entire day
2. Bone broth, 12-36 ounces warmed and sipped
3. Magnesium Water, you can skip the magnesium and potassium supplements for now and add just fresh squeezed lemon juice, a few drops of essential oil and a pinch of salt that contains trace minerals. Most of us are deficient in magnesium. I plan to up my intake of broth to correct my deficiency, but for now I’m finding this supplement very useful.
4. Kombucha, 8-16 ounces. Acids, probiotics, B vitamins and more are packed into this delicious, fizzy beverage.
5. Milk Kefir, 8-16 ounces. I am in love with milk kefir. It’s a superstar of the ferments, packing in over 40 different probiotic strains. The yeast strains in milk kefir are extremely helpful in driving out opportunistic strains of yeasts from the large intestine. A yogurt smoothie with frozen berries, a splash of kombucha and a dash of chia seeds is a great start if your unfamiliar with kefir.
When I don’t consume enough liquids, or I’m consuming nutrient depleting liquids like alcohol, I very easily overeat. Overeating is extremely strenuous on all of the organs of the digestive tract, especially the liver that essentially deals with every single macro and micro nutrient. It’s uncomfortable, painful and can very much disrupt sleep & happiness.
Here’s to more nutrient dense beverages and less overeating in the new year.
