Dressing For Success – A Guide to Interview Attire

“Your attire is the first handshake you give to your potential employer”

Dressing plays an important role in presenting oneself - It portrays your professionalism, confidence and personality. Whenever we go somewhere the first thing people notice is the dressing of an individual. Hence, we should always look presentable wherever we go. A good outfit leaves a good impression, while a shabbily dressed individual leaves a bad impression.

This is also applicable to the candidates going for an interview. Candidates should make sure that he/she is appropriately dressed for the interview. Following are the few details candidates should pay attention to.

1.?????Research the culture: Before going for an interview always research the company's dress code. Some organizations have completely formal dressing while others are more on the casual side. Therefore, check the company's website and social media platform to get an idea about the dress code of the company.

2.?????Dress professionally: There is always a thin line between overdressed and underdressed. Hence choosing an outfit that stays in between these two parameters is essential. Also while going for an interview men and women should opt for professionally suited outfits. A man can wear a suit, shirt, tie and trousers and a woman can go for a suit, kurti sets, shirt, and trousers and always wear appropriate footwear with them.

3.?????Choose conservative colours: Sticking to neutral colours and conservative colours like white, navy blue, grey blue and black, these are the colours considered to be professional in a corporate setting and convey a sense of reliability and confidence. Avoid too many accessories, keep it minimal.

4.?????Pay attention to grooming details: Personal grooming is as important as dressing. Make sure to have clean hair and a well-groomed haircut/hairstyle. Keep facial hairs neat and trimmed. For women try a hairstyle that compliments their face. Take care of your manicure and pedicure, and have perfectly groomed hands and feet.

5.?????Pay attention to fit and comfort: One should opt for outfits that are well-fitted, comfortable and wrinkle-free. Avoid wearing short tops, tights, and revealing or restrictive clothes.

Hence it is important to dress up appropriately for the company you are heading for an interview. If in doubt go for formal attire. Your attire is just the missing piece of the puzzle, but it still plays a significant role in setting the tone for a successful interview.

All the best.
